“Would I recommend the shelter to anybody? Yes!” Cynthia, once unhoused, found safety in interim housingwith her two dogs—and now has a home of her own. With help from LAHSA and Hope for Home, she began her path to permanent housing. Interim housing is the way home.

Each night of the Homeless Count ends with validation to ensure accuracy. Deployment Site Coordinators review tallies with volunteer counters to verify the data they collected—the first filter in the process. Thank you to every volunteer for dedicating your night to this effort.

“My story recently changed—from homeless to homeowner.” Meet Tiffany, Advisory Group Coordinator for LAHSA’s Lived Experience Advisory Board (LEAB). She helps elevate the voices of unhoused Angelenos and shares vital resources, including the @CalHFA homeownership program.

Accuracy is a top priority at LAHSA, and we’re accepting proposals under our RFP for Homeless Count Professional Services for Statistical and Demographic Surveying. We invite qualified experts to submit a proposal. The submission deadline is 4/27/2026!

Before the rain hit, LAHSA outreach teams acted. On Dec. 19 in Castaic, our outreach team met Richard, an unhoused veteran. After days of follow-ups and visits, the team secured a motel voucher before the rain. Our team continues daily support. We never give up on our clients.

During a severe winter storm, LAHSA outreach teams responded to immediate risk. On Christmas Eve in Lancaster, our outreach team checked on Felicia, who had lost her RV. They provided dry clothes, food, and emergency motel placement at the Regal Lodge, keeping her safe and warm.

During the holiday storms, prevention saves lives. HET members Abel and Daphne urged Kevin near Compton Creek to relocate as weather worsened. Thanks to their ongoing follow-ups, he trusted them and accepted a motel voucher. This is the power of consistent outreach.

During a severe winter storm in Lancaster, LAHSA Outreach staff Luis and Sheridan secured a motel room for Shelby after weeks of trust-building. They helped him get medical care, arranged Recuperative Care, and gave him safety and hope for the holidays. Thank you both.

On Dec. 26, during a winter storm, LAHSA outreach team members Francisca and Loxley refused to give up, making call after call to find safety for an unhoused mother and baby. With space at @UnionRescueMission, they drove to reunite them. Outreach is showing up, no matter what.

During the storm, LAHSA outreach teams prioritized medically vulnerable clients. Lorraine, Sarai, and Oscar from our outreach team didn’t stop looking for Rolando after his hospital discharge. Through their persistence and advocacy, he was matched to the Devonshire Travelodge!

As winter storms hit LA, outreach teams work urgently to get people indoors. On Dec. 26, our team went above and beyond to help a family stranded in Pomona after their only possession—their vehicle—broke down. Fuel, a jumper, and a motel kept them safe. Outreach in action!

@ScottAMeyersLA The Homeless Count is mandated by HUD. They set the parameters for the Point-in-Time (PIT) count nationally, including when it takes place.

Re the annual homeless count: Why does the count occur over 3 nights during January or February? Clearly there’d be a much different count if it occurred during the summer months. Without a credible explanation, we are left to assume that it’s scheduled on Winter evenings to hide the failures of your efforts.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered for the 2026 Homeless Count! Due to LAHSA's process improvements, 99% of observations were captured digitally, the app ran smoothly, and there were 36% fewer make-up tracts. Results are expected late spring/early summer.
