Driving through a city SHOULD be inconvenient if you're driving at the same time as everyone else. Space is limited, and motor vehicles take up a ton of space. Over time they keep getting bigger. Autobesity is a burden on everyone.

Gotta love how people assume the French Canadians know English by default, like we didn't have to learn it in schools over the years. Cry me a river. English education is taught from a very young age in Quebec. Why couldn't you learn French at a young age as a second language?

Every English Officer in the CAF has their military career negatively impacted by these stupid policies. You get 1 point for a Degree, 2 points for a Masters Degree but 5 total points the more bilingual you are. If your annual performance review is Mastered, Immediate (recommendation) and Outstanding, MOI, and you can't speak French, you don't get promoted past Captain - even if you NEVER serve in a French unit in Canada. Compare that to French Officers who can go to any other English speaking province and English speaking unit. If you have ever wondered why the CAF is dominated by French Officers, this is why! Performance and Potential take a back seat to being bilingual. (As a side note, I have an MBA and I asked 9 career managers in a row for French training and they all told me no because I wasn't a Major!?!?!).

Everything about official bilingualism in Canada is built on myth. People can’t “just learn” a language they don’t need. Canada isn’t “built on” two equally-sized language groups. Bilingualism isn’t “necessary” to function at an elite level. It’s all just Laurentian folklore.

Quick aviation fact for the committee: English is the OFFICIAL international language of aviation per ICAO standards—pilots & controllers worldwide MUST use it for safety to avoid deadly mix-ups. Every pilot speaks English operationally. Yet Air Canada CEO records crash condolences mostly in English (with a couple French words thrown in) after a tragedy that killed two pilots, including one from Quebec → gets SUMMONED to Ottawa by the Official Languages Committee to 'explain himself' before May 1. Because apparently a 4-minute video not being perfectly bilingual is the real emergency here. Meanwhile, anglophones in Québec get treated like second-class citizens EVERY DAY: French text legally 2x bigger on signs (thanks Bill 96), constant language policing, and daily reminders anglophones are outsiders in their own country. But sure, THIS is the national crisis worth a parliamentary grilling. Priorities, eh?
