@WSJ He just rubber stamped the death of a young woman who saw no value in life after being gang-raped while in the state's care. Horrific.

@dodderidge @BMcGrewvy Yes - she did. The difference here is the state's involvement, approval and enablement (the same state which had not safeguarded her in its own care earlier).

@capt_goodfellow @BMcGrewvy Awful things happened to her, but she still had the options that most other people in similar circumstances pursue, but instead chose to end her life. Quibbles over semantics are beside the point.

The Noelia Castillo Ramos story is just so horrible. Every single step of it is a horror. Her poor father who tried to fight for her and lost in the courts.

@capt_goodfellow @BMcGrewvy I mean she could have gone, “Huh, this seems to be really distressing to my parents. Maybe I’ll hold off on it.” But she didn’t.

@dodderidge @BMcGrewvy I think the point is that she felt she had no choice, and saw no value in living, because of crimes committed against her - things not under her control. Suicide isn't a method of coping - because now she's dead.

@capt_goodfellow @BMcGrewvy Sure, but she made her own decision to cope with that by ending her own life, as far as I can tell. Nobody seems to have forced her.

@j4ppleby After what has just happened in Spain, I hope it never darkens the UK's door.

@BMcGrewvy It’s awful, but at the end of the day she bears responsibility for her choices.

This story will haunt me forever. When I saw her best friend being refused entry to see her because they were afraid it would make her change her mind about letting them kill her, I was chilled to the bone. These people are monsters.

@BBCNews Everything about this story is horrific, including the BBC's initial coverage of it. She was failed by so many.

Sometimes, you think you've lived long enough to have seen it all, heard it all. But then a news story appears that makes you realise you really hadn't. Desperate for a miraculous intervention in this case. news.sky.com/story/gang-rap…

This is a truly shocking case that will no doubt prompt much discussion. From what we know of the facts, this poor girl had a terrible upbringing and suffered an appalling trauma as a result. Life has clearly broken her, physically and mentally. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…
