Always delights me that the consensus turned so dramatically on EYES WIDE SHUT, a film so widely loathed back in 1999 that during a work retreat one of my co-workers literally got up, pointed at me, laughed, and loudly announced, “Hey, HE liked EYES WIDE SHUT!”

@TheRioTheatre @jfkenney @BostjancicJim Yep, there was originally a 3-night/3-city premiere plan, NYC -> Toronto -> L.A., but they cancelled L.A. and went to work on the shorter cut. I don't think the long version ever got another official theatrical showing (aside from a one-off in Paris at the Cinematheque).

@jfkenney @BostjancicJim Just looked it up and The University Theatre was indeed the venue for the Canadian premiere. It was a gala event with cast and crew in attendance, including Kris Kristofferson and director Michael Cimino. It was a major flop, and was quickly replaced with another film.
