Do you ever think, “I like Henry Ford’s antisemitism and untold wealth, but I hate how he reinvented the economy and created millions of jobs.” Well you’re in luck, because we’ve got Elon Musk.

“Mainers love incumbents. That’s why we shouldn’t run an incumbent elected official. Instead, this local rando will be so shocking and so powerful Maine voters will suddenly decide they dislike incumbents now.”
Anthony Emerson❤️🌲🦞🇾🇪🌹@AnthonyMEmerson

Mainers do not vote out incumbents. The last time a Senator lost reelection here was 1978. To beat Collins, a candidate has to offer people something so profoundly different from what she represents that we become willing to abandon her seniority and constituent services.

@peterawolf These are all the same people who said Democrats were pathetic losers for running Ossoff in a district he didn't live in, because he temporarily moved in with his girlfriend a mile outside the district.

“Carpetbagger” is about more than geography; it’s about someone not spending enough time in the district getting to know constituents and issues *because* they only parachuted in to run for office. Which is exactly what IL-09 voters said: we don’t know her, she don’t know us.
herman milly rock@Eyoyism

the kat abughazaleh carpetbagger people make me feel crazy because she lives in the city, i would feel much more represented by someone who actually lives in chicago vs someone from out in the suburbs even if they’re technically in my district

@LegoKingo Yeah for this reason I find it hard to get into "Dune", it seems to me less interestingly ambiguous than completely incomprehensible. "Prophecy is a lie but also Paul is in fact the Messiah." What?

I think the question of Dune’s orientalism/its relationship to the idea of a historical Great Man is a little complicated and muddled. Herbert often wavers between seeing Paul as evil and seeing him/his children as tragic heroes.

I'm not sure intelligent adults were ever prominent, but we did have much more stable adults. The country got their information from people like Walter Cronkite, not some coked up grifter on their phone.

I miss the prominence of intelligent adults. I don't think we talk about that enough - how fucking mind numbing is it to be in a country that's idolizing absolute fucking morons.

There's a reason why the modern (far) left bet the farm on scenarios of environmental apocalypse- it's how they link the superior productivity of capitalism to the injustice which is the centerpiece of their concern.
space cadet 🇪🇺🌐🇩🇪@actsmaniac

Today's socialists do not deny capitalism's superiority in terms of productivity, they challenge capitalism on the ground that it's unjust. Therefore it's not enough for the system to be more productive, if it's unjust it should not be defended.
