@keenanisalive Also thinking of it from the perspective of path-based sampling in symbolic execution. Another example is Neuzz that uses gradient-guided approach rather than ramdom sampling arxiv.org/pdf/1807.05620…

@counterfac Yeah, I guess that’s what it’s called isn’t it. 😅 I haven’t seen a systematic treatment of fuzzing for geometric algorithms. E.g., uniformly random inputs often lead to perfectly well-behaved systems. Also have to think about quantifying “failure” (e.g., bad condition number).

Terrific & under-appreciated question: how do you generate *bad* inputs to stress-test mesh processing algorithms? Real datasets are of course part of the story, but it’s also nice to have synthetic strategies that really push the limits (or apply where available datasets don’t)

By the way, you will have some darn big shoes to fill: our current director, the legendary @rdbartlett, one of the best people I've had the privilege to work with, will soon be retiring after a long and distinguished career at UChicago. We'll miss you (and your laughter), Bob!
