Enough talks about x402, it's cooking time I documented myself navigating through the x402 ecosystem and implementing a simple buyer-seller app on Solana mainnet. 0:00:00 - Intro with explaination of seller server 0:01:07 - My code setup 0:01:47 - Exploring free facilitators 0:02:49 - Settting up my wallets for sending & receiving payment 0:03:44 - Debugging phase 0:03:58 - first run and fixing bugs 0:06:19 - successful attempt 0:07:25 - conclusion and my thoughts about facilitators Here are my takeaways: The ecosystem is maturing very fast - Announced in May by @coinbase, i'm suprised that lots of apps have already adopted the protocol into their systems. - Even though the SDK is easy to use, it is still framework dependent. Hopefully this will be improved so builders can freely use what libraries they want. Facilitators are the new "MEV", sort of - If apps & AI Agents use cloud-hosted facilitators, be careful of censorships and MEV, especially during congestions. The providers could freely re-order your requests and prioritize those who pay more, just like what validators do. - It is similar to using an existing RPC provider, or self-hosting one. Self-hosting has complete freedom & control, but comes with infra and operation overhead. No cross-chain facilitators (yet)? - So far, sellers need to specifically state the receiver address and the corresponding destination network. It would be cool if we could specify the source and the destination network. - Buyers would only need to hold their tokens on one chain, and enable payments everywhere. - Also, enabling swaps before payment would boost the UX a lot. x402 is not magic, but a protocol aiming to be a standard for on-chain payment - We have already been doing on-chain payments for years, but the implementation was scattered and private, not shared among builders. - Like prior to the release of MCP, tool calling was already popular in the AI world. However, each team handled tool calling differently using different formats. After MCP was released, the rest is history. - x402 could be like MCP if done right with enough resources.
