Laas Geel is among hundreds of caves along the Golis mountain ranges in Northern Somalia that show case the rich history of Cushitic civilisations—the founders of the first civilisations in the world; the Bronze Age civilisations. I know of dozens of similar caves in both Calmadow & Calmiskaat with paintings & unique artefacts. Sadly many of these caves, some of which are more valuable than Laas Geel, in eastern Golis (Calmiskaat) have been vandalised, stollen by terrorists (AS, ISIS) & are being destroyed by the ongoing recent bombings by UAE airforce. The rich archaeological history in the Golis range cave systems are gift from early Cushites (Puntites, Macrobians, Ati/Aten/Bin Aad etc.) to the humanity. Somalis, as one of descendant tribes of these early Cushites, were the custodians in the past couple of millennia & kept intact. Somaliland is merely the land of Somalis in a country called #Somalia. Needles to say USA has a responsibility to protect the cave systems in Eastern Golis (Calmiskaat) & their rich archeological history which are currently under bombardment.

The Somaliland government, under President Abdirahman Irro @Abdirahmanirro , is imprisoning traditional leaders simply for peacefully expressing their opposition to regressive policies that are causing deep societal divisions.
This action directly violates Part 3 of Article 32 of the Somaliland Constitution, which guarantees freedom of expression as a fundamental right. The article explicitly protects:
➡️The right to express opinions orally, in writing, or through any other form of media.
➡️ Freedom of public demonstration and assembly.
➡️The independence of the press and other media, while prohibiting any acts intended to subjugate or undermine them.
It us unfortunate the unilateral action to open fire on peaceful demonstrators in the district of Sheikh asking for the unconditional release of their traditional leader has caused death of innocent civilians.
The government must disengage from local petty revenge politics and allow freedom of expression to prevail. Its priority should be defending the country against Somalia’s sworn threat to conquer Hargeisa and Berbera by force.
