Hello people that still follow this account. I added another installment to my SEO for Non-Scumbags series, if you want to check that out. This one talks about doing keyword research as a function of how mature and authoritative your site is. daedtech.com/the-phases-of-…

@kellogh I think that's because SEO content creators (and digital marketers more broadly) try to create content that applies to any marketing funnel. But that makes it so broad and abstract as to be fairly useless. Kind of like creating content about "here's how to program"

Oh, my bad, I faceplanted on the TBOF link. Log out of twitter for a few months and forget how the internet works. Anyway, this one should be less useless: share.transistor.fm/s/564b8e9d

I interrupt my usual not-logging-into-twitter to do a couple of quick announcements: 1. I wrote a blog post recently, continuing the SEO for non-scumbags series: daedtech.com/keywords-301-c… 2. @FreelanceBizPod is back! Episode 1 of season 3 is live: dashboard.transistor.fm/shows/the-busi…

Hey folks. I did a blog post after a long hiatus! I don't make it to the Twitters very often anymore, but for anyone following me here to learn about new blog content, I figured I owed you a pro forma note. Here's the post: daedtech.com/keywords-201-t… More to come. A-cheers!

@BennettGarner Thanks for the kind words and the recommendation! I don't make it onto the Twitters a lot these days, but it's nice to see something like this when I do :)

@NoWhiteboardOrg I'm thinking of doing a case study chapter in the series. I appreciate the feedback that this would be useful.

@daedtech All very insightful points Erik! I'd love to see a long-form post of things you've seen work well for new websites looking to focus on SEO. I appreciate the numbers you've given as well, as prior things I've read have been very open-ended ie "We did this and it was pretty good"

Hey, new content on DaedTech today! I'm continuing my SEO for Non-Scumbags series with details about how I (and Hit Subscribe) approach keyword research. We've managed to earn many millions of visitors with it, so it's gotta be at least half-effective daedtech.com/keywords-101-d…

@NoWhiteboardOrg In fact, I *recommend* this approach for brand new sites and/or sites with domain authority below ~20.

@NoWhiteboardOrg Yes, definitely target 0 volume phrases. We did that as an experiment at one point, targeting 0 volume long tail, response keywords, and in aggregate those posts yielded thousands of monthly visitors.

@NoWhiteboardOrg I do know that I can force ahrefs to do a cache update, so perhaps others work in similar fashion (though KE does not, AFAICT)

@daedtech Nice article! Two questions for you: 1) Do you know how the Google cache updating works for those “0 volume searches”? For example, say there’s a new topic that pops up and gets say 120 searches in a month. At what point does Google say “Okay, I’m gonna start caching this.”

@NoWhiteboardOrg Thanks for the kind words! Regarding the caching, I'm referring to the tools doing the caching, rather than Google. (Google has its own peculiarities about this data, since they don't intend planner as a keyword research tool). And I don't know how the tools prioritize terms.

I'm kinda floored at how many of our SaaS-y/monthly vendors make it hard to pre-pay a year of service, or flat out don't support it. Even for no discount. I mean, no shade or complaints, per se. Just seems like standard response to "want some free cash flow" would be "yup."
