Saw him gig at Peterborough Key Theatre years ago - him/guitar, a piano accordion and - I think - a fiddle. Incredible version of ‘Vienna’ considering! His ‘chat’ was first rate. Wonderful talker. Really rate him.

@MarkHoldstock @RAIL I remember using the trolley footbridge when Malton had a separate Up platform. It blocked the Down line when in use but was interlocked with the signals.

@RAIL It perhaps also sheds light on the fact that Malton only now has one platform which serves trains in both directions whilst it still has the second line (but no platform)

We regard pix like this now as quaint curios of the past. But look deeper and you start to understand how stations were the wonder of the age and made us what we are. The historian who really communicates unlocks this understanding. So important.

The North Eastern Railway's Malton Station in around 1914. The York and North Midland Railway's services began on 7 July 1845 when the York to Scarborough Line was opened. The company became part of the NER in 1854, which became part of the London & North Eastern Railway in 1923.
