🤝 Chamgei Bikap Nandi! Meet Samuel and Elizabeth Kogo from Kolongei Self Help Group in Nandi Hills Sub‑County. Once fully reliant on tea farming, with little land left for kitchen gardens, their children often faced the effects of poor nutrition. But through @SaveChildren_KE Nandi Carbon–Climate Resilience, Livelihood and Nutrition Project, funded by @STC_Ventures, everything is changing. Today, the Kogos are proudly running thriving nurseries of avocado seedlings. With improved diets at home and the promise of income from future avocado harvests, they are confident their children will grow healthier and that surplus sales will help support their education too. This transformation is made possible by @STC_Ventures, together with implementing partners @kiptapkei and the County Government of Nandi. A powerful reminder that when families have the right support, resilience grows, one seedling at a time. @SC_RMCP @HarwooK

Great to see the conversation going on our NFMS. Our forests not only act as a habitat and support carbon sequestration but are also critical in livelihoods sustenance. #ForestChampions

Forestry Principal Secretary was today represented by #15BillionTrees Secretariat National Coordinator Ms. Susan Boit at a national workshop to assess progress made in strengthening Kenya’s National Forest Monitoring System (NFMS). Ms. Boit, who was also joined by Mr. Roberts Jonathan, the FAO AIM4Forests Programme Manager for Kenya, acknowledged the role of the NMS as a critical pillar in tracking forest cover changes and supporting climate finance readiness. Kenya’s forest monitoring capacity has grown significantly over the years, driven by initiatives such as SLEEK, UN-REDD, IMPRESS, and JICA-supported pilots. These efforts have modernized monitoring systems through enhanced satellite analysis, harmonized datasets, and strengthened institutional coordination, improving the accuracy, transparency, and reliability of forest data. Under the AIM4Forests programme, key achievements were highlighted, including updated annual forest monitoring data for the period 2016–2023, enhancements to the Forest Carbon Calculation Database, and improved technical procedures. These gains mark Kenya’s transition toward a more institutionalized and efficient system for assessing forest emissions and removals. Participants received detailed updates on recent NFMS advancements, including improvements in remote sensing workflows, sample based monitoring, and preliminary Forest Reference Level (FREL) results. These developments, the workshop noted, position Kenya more competitively to access results based climate finance opportunities such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and ART-TREES. Technical discussions covered methodological concerns, data gaps, uncertainty analysis, and areas requiring refinement. Stakeholders provided feedback aimed at strengthening the integrity and reliability of future monitoring outputs. A consolidated list of priority actions was adopted, including the finalization of activity data for 2016–2023, standardization of operating procedures, and harmonization of datasets across institutions. By the end of the session, partners endorsed a clear roadmap that will inform the 2026 AIM4Forests and UN-REDD workplans. The deliberations reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to maintaining a robust, transparent, and credible forest monitoring system, while enhancing the country’s readiness to attract climate finance for sustainable forest management. Also present were Dr. Margaret Kaigongi of the State Department for Forestry, the Conservator of Forests at the Kenya Forest Service, Mr. Peter Sirayo, and Ms. Michiko Nishikwa of JICA, among other stakeholders. #AIM4Forests #ForestMonitoring #REDDplus #ClimateAction

Over 130 farmers expressed interest in either establishing native tree nurseries or offering land, particularly around water bodies or degraded forest areas for restoration. This is proof that farmers are ready to be active champions of protecting mother nature.

Our focus was on climate-smart agriculture especially the integration of agroforestry and the urgent need to protect water sources. These practices not only improve food security but also build resilience to the impacts of climate change.
