So, selfishly, I am *super* happy to be a teacher this week. There are, of course, student-centered reasons… but man, am I happy that I get to spend this week surrounded by kids’ laughter and beautiful foolishness. Happy to not be alone w my thoughts about the world.

If you voted for Trump I don’t like you, but I care about you. A lot of you are gloating in my DMs. When Trump era policies destroy your access to healthcare, education and clean water I will not be there to gloat, I will be there to help you organize. When Trump era policies deport your friends or legally deny you healthcare I’m not going to stand over you and say “seee”, I’m going to help you organize. When Trump era policies defund public schools in your district and their vouchers aren’t enough for private school, we will not be there to gloat and point fingers, we will be there to help you organize. When you’re eventually disenfranchised by Project 2025, we will all be there for you as community.

How can we continue to teach intellectual skills when the rebellion to intellectualism partially got us into this mess?

Uh huh, sure, sure. I’m sure there are quite a few college professors who teach night classes getting sick tonight. Not that I’m complaining 😀

My district recently informed us that clocking in even a minute after 7:15 is considered a 'gift of public funds'—meaning we won’t be paid for that time. Alternatively, the hours I put in outside of my contracted time are also a gift to the public. And those are not required.

Imagine what MLL students could accomplish if we just let them do everything in their native language…

Has anyone ever found and read an article, summarized it and saved it, found a perfect spot for it in your literature review... only to to have it completely disappear from the internet? I think I may be being haunted by phantom citations...

The fact that school cafeteria workers get upwards of 1500 people fed and out the door in less that 30 minutes is miraculous.

So this is actually a common misconception. Inquiry does not mean this according to NGSS The shift from using the term inquiry to ‘Scientific Practices’ came because the term Inquiry had a million definitions. Inquiry as defined by NGSS technically means using practices…
Olivia Mullins@oliviajune82

@mathillustrated Not really what? I'm in science so I rely heavily on how NGSS writes about it. "Inquiry" is when a major part of the lesson(s) require students to "figure out" the central ideas of said lesson. Vs. DI where the central ideas are explained by the teacher

For an activity on language, I had my students invent a slang word/phrase and I’d love for you to help me pick which one you could see using and/or being used. Share your favorite in the COMMENTS. Top 5: ghouling, block of ice, textpectation, aurizzma, and losersauce👌🏼

@ATinyGreenCell I did this with my students to sequence a phage genome. Exonuclease resistant random hexamer primers + circular DNA + phi29 = magic

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day! Just a reminder that Native Americans are not a historical people, that we are still here, and that the biggest injustice in U.S. history—the dispossession of land from Indigenous nations largely by fraudulent treaties—remains ongoing
