Take a fraction of the 'cost' of AI and channel it into mentors for all early careers teachers.

Pupils can and should discover essential knowledge through their own investigations and be taught other knowledge directly.

Criticising discovery learning does not mean rejecting inquiry. Pupils should not have to discover essential knowledge that could have been taught clearly. But once they know enough, they can investigate, compare, explain and solve. Inquiry becomes more productive when knowledge and guidance are already in place.

My claim is not that your preferred method does not work but that it is innefficient - that is to say that to get similar outcomes both I am my students had to work significantly harder at Inquiry V DI
(BTW I was once an advocate of Inquiry/PBL etc)

@tombennett71 I once gave an "Ignite" presentation—exactly 20 slides in five minutes—on cognitive load theory. At the end I was asked if I saw any irony in that, and I said I didn't, because I didn't expect anyone to remember any of it. What I did hope was they might want to find out more...

Today we're launching Claude for Teachers -- premium @claudeai and Cowork, free for every US teacher. Teachers have been experimenting with AI for a while. But they told us they wanted something curriculum-aligned, evidence-based, and able to work in the background while they focus on their students. Four things that I think make this special:

Infectious diseases like cyclospora and measles are spreading because the people in charge don't care about public health. That's why we need more scientists and/or healthcare professionals in the room. That's why I'm running.

This is partly solved by the relatively common (though not common enough) practice of review and cumulative quizzes/tests. There's a real time crunch for coverage in high school math classes so this would be easier if we could make some standards optional.

you can predict when a kid is about to forget something. the math has existed since 1885. school's review schedule is still: test on friday, then never see it again
