@sarasparks92 @RememberPorkins @IamCarterSade I support the European model which makes sense (eliminate the norm for tipping) because servers earn enough to live. From my understanding I82 is not a phased in Euro model. I82 organizer’s expect to uphold the norm where customers still tip 20% + on top of menu increases.

@madchefred @heyMAKWA @ScottZeilinger1 @IamCarterSade @jsidman As an I82 supporter, is the expectation that I still need to pay 20% on top of increased menu prices? So, we are still upholding the Jim Crow relic tipping system. I thought the point of I82 was to make tips optional, becuz wait staff made a livable wage?

@Rybread2640 @nevertweety And honestly, as a I82 supporter and DCPS teacher who hasn’t had a raise in 3 years, I would have preferred that the I82 campaign had put their support behind @WTUTeacher to get a new contract, rather then making it more expensive for me to live in my hometown.

@Rybread2640 @nevertweety Not to mention “+ tips” now means 40% according to @nevertweety! On top of increased menu prices to cover the non-livable “livable” wage. As a supporter, who lives on a teachers salary, I’ll have to cut WAY back on sit down dining.

@nevertweety A waiter making $130k + a year?! If that was what I82 was expecting that makes no sense. That’s more than most federal employees, teachers, EMTs. All for rolling and polishing silverware, plating coffee, and bringing a plate 20 ft to a table?! Nope, it’s cheaper to Uber Eats!

@nevertweety So, the expectation is that service staff will get $16.20 an hour (covered by an increase in menu prices) plus a 40% tip (provided by the customer) for food they didn’t purchase or cook themselves?! Yeah, I didn’t understand I82 then.

@nevertweety I saw the automatic 20% service charge as a way to remove potentially bias customer discretion, which could be racist or sexist, and ensure equity and a living wage was achieved for the tipped wage staff.

@HankTan30939956 @StikeDC @FeverPotomac So, I’m confused. Is the 20% service charge a bad thing? How did the organizers behind I82 imagine this law being implemented? Do additional rules need to be put in place to ensure the 20% service charge is properly allocated to front and back of house staff?

@StikeDC @FeverPotomac If it’s mandatory it is taxed as sales tax. Mandatory service charges go to top line revenue so the math would be of net or at least it should. Mandatory service charges are property of the house that they can do what they want.

Visited two well known bars tonight. Both had 20% service charges. Both got $0 in tips.

@maustermuhle @kenyanmcduffie @tweetelissa So, when voters were given an option of an other incumbent w/ exp as a balanced legislator who didn’t bring nearly as much baggage it was clear that Elissa’s seat was in danger. All her oppos did was lean on those existing 3 fissures, while she choose to ignore them. BIG mistake!

@maustermuhle @kenyanmcduffie @tweetelissa Elissa lost for 3 reasons: 1. This is her 2nd foray with questionable ethics but only the first time being held accountable for it. 2. Her W3 support dried up after her redistricting debacle and the election meddling allegations. 3. Her poor rapport EOTR cost her critical votes.

@jasoncherkis The residents of W7 and W8 also “lean conservative” on a lot of issues, which is why Silverman performed so poorly EOTR. She was seen as being too progressive or silent on the issues we cared about, while being too vocal on issues that weren’t priorities in our community.

@coreyholman I’m interested to see a comparative heat map of Bonds 2018 and Bonds 2022 to see where her loses came from.

@coreyholman The overlooked part of this map is the fact that Bonds was able to pull out a win with an almost identical percentage drop of her total voters as Elissa from 2018 to 2022 (-53%), the only difference is Bonds had a surplus of voters she could lose and still be carried to victory.
