and I’ll say it again

Sonny Rollins playing on the Williamsburg Bridge with tenor saxophonist, arranger, and educator Paul Jeffrey in 1968. By 1959, Sonny Rollins had grown increasingly dissatisfied with what he felt were his own musical shortcomings and withdrew from the public eye to embark on the first—and most storied—of his self-imposed sabbaticals. Residing on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, he sought refuge on the pedestrian walkway of the Williamsburg Bridge, where he could practice without disturbing a pregnant neighbor. From the summer of 1959 until the end of 1961, Rollins returned to the bridge almost daily, playing for as long as 15 or 16 hours at a stretch, through heat, wind, and snow, alongside the rumble of passing trains. Today, a fifteen-story apartment building named The Rollins stands on Grand Street, marking the site of his former home—a quiet monument to one of the most disciplined and transformative chapters in jazz history.

The health ministry has released a new 1,000-page document with the names, ages and other info, of 52,959 Palestinians killed in Gaza. For the first 100 pages (over 5,000 names), the age is listed at 5 years or younger. The first 18 pages the age is listed as 0 (under 1 year)

RIP to the legendary Sonny Rollins at age 95, one of the greatest to ever do it.

A white physician has sued the online directory "Find A Black Doctor," arguing that limiting participation to Black physicians constitutes racial discrimination. On its surface, the question seems straightforward: Should a physician directory be allowed to restrict membership by race? But that framing misses what I believe is the more important question: Why did so many patients feel they needed a directory like this in the first place? The directory didn't come out of thin air. It emerged within a healthcare system where nearly half of Black patients report experiencing discrimination, where Black women remain far more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications, and where racial disparities persist even after accounting for income and education. The controversy is not really about a website. It's about trust. And what happens when institutions struggle to earn it. In this essay, I explore: - Why Black patients actively seek Black physicians - Why poverty explains much—but not all—of the gap - Why physician directories may be better understood as a symptom than the problem itself - And what the existence of "Find A Black Doctor" reveals about the state of trust in American healthcare open.substack.com/pub/brittanija…

BREAKING: MICROSOFT JUST ANNOUNCED TO BAN ITS OWN ENGINEERS FROM USING AI DUE TO THE COST OF USING IT. VP OF NVIDIA SAID, “THE COST OF AI FOR MY TEAM WAS MORE THAN HUMANS” “AI CAN COST MORE THAN HUMAN WORKERS NOW”

Humanity, created by God in all its grandeur, is today facing a pivotal choice: either to construct a new Tower of Babel or to build the city in which God and humanity dwell together. In Jesus Christ, this humanity in its grandeur becomes the Way, the Truth and the Life, opening the path for each of us to grow toward fullness.

Housing costs are too high, and too many Washingtonians are being priced out of the city they love. My housing plan is focused on building more homes across DC so we can lower costs, expand affordability, and make it possible for more people to stay and thrive in our city.
