Don’t even get me started about how other igbo tribes see us Ebonyi people as third class Igbos. Let’s call it what it is: INTRA-ETHNIC DISCRIMINATION. internalized ethnocentrism. Same Igbo blood. Same ancestors. Same land. Same language. Same culture. Yet somehow, some Igbos have decided that Ebonyi people are “third-class Igbos.” HOW??? Before I became “Ebonyian,” I was Abian. Before that, Imo. My village didn’t move. My compound didn’t relocate. My ancestors didn’t migrate overnight. Only the name of the state changed because of politics and lines drawn on paper. So tell me What exactly changed about my humanity? My intelligence? My worth? My Igboness? How did state creation suddenly turn people into “better” and “lesser” Igbos? This thing we do ehn! looking down on our own people because of accents, farming backgrounds, perceived poverty, or state of origin It is classism wearing ethnic clothes. It is colonial mentality recycled and served hot. It is oppression without foreigners. You can’t scream “Igbo unity” on one side of your mouth and spit on Ebonyi people on the other. Ebonyi is not a curse. Ebonyi people are not inferior. And no Igbo person gets to rewrite history to feel superior. If your Igbo pride requires another Igbo person to be “less than,” then the problem is not Ebonyi. It’s you!
