@GrantAHolcomb @IVMiles Basically by the 1770s, most of the highland establishment had reconciled to the Hanoverian succession. Additionally most Jacobite Scots were more recent arrivals & American Whiggishness didn’t jibe with their old school Highland Toryism

Revolutionary allegiances in the American War for Independence have a lot more to do with local politics than religion. Southern Anglicans, especially in Virginia and South Carolina, were more devoted to the Patriot cause than largely Tory Scot (not Scot-Irish!!) Presbyterians.

I’m wracking my brain to remember this rubric someone developed for teaching history grad students now to analyze and break down articles and monographs. Any ideas? Y’all know what I’m talking about? #twitterstorians

Thankfully, @cygnoir made some COVID-killer for us. Might try it intravenous or, at the very least, subcutaneous in the days ahead. 🤒

@NushPowell Yes, especially leading up to the 15. Trying to understand impact from time period of Glorious Revolution through early 1700s, especially in New York and other colonies.

Can any #Twitterstorians recommend a book(s) about the Jacobite rebellion? Looking for more context about the era, impact on American colonies, and any other interesting components. Brief references to Pirates (always) a plus!

@MikkiBrock Have you read Parker Palmer’s book The Courage to Teach? It’s a bit older now but I’m currently reading it and finding some of it helpful. He does a good job of moving beyond technique or methods and celebrating the diversity of approaches.

Just a bit of light reading! Here’s the un-staged photo of my bedside table. Anyone else have the same disease?

Is there any scholarship on what colonists in North America thought of the Jacobite rebellions? There has to be, right?

@jmadelman I used it for a senior-level capstone class and it went well except one of the later chapters on cultural history didn’t land.

We've got to stop using “worldview” as a justification for doing bad history. I am teaching from a college level American history textbook published by a Christian publisher & these are just some of the provided test bank questions…(🧵1/8) #historymatters
