Spurs use the 44th overall pick to select 6-9 Duke-alumnus Maliq Brown, 22. Brown, who also played at Syracuse, was the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year.

Spurs 2nd round pick Maliq Brown’s individual pre-draft workouts were heavily tracked with teams like the Golden State Warriors and the Indiana Pacers.
At the NBA Combine, Brown turned heads by tying for the fastest three-quarter court sprint among his position group (3.07 seconds).
Out of Duke at 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot-0¾ wingspan, he combines elite mobility with disruptive instincts, using his quick hands to rack up 1.8 steals per game while switching seamlessly onto perimeter players.

With the 44th pick, the Spurs just selected Maliq Brown, the power forward out of Duke. If you wanted to construct a perfect defensive puzzle piece to slide right in to the front court next to the new first-round towers, you couldn't do much better. Brown is a decorated four-year collegiate veteran who capped off his senior year as the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the winner of the Lefty Driesell Award (given to the top defensive player in the nation).

A First Team All-SEC guard handles heavy pressure cleanly and brings pesky point-of-attack defense (2.1 SPG).
He's seen as a high-IQ backcourt navigator who could actually feed those massive front court guys that were just drafted.
He doesn’t get sped up by heavy perimeter pressure and utilizes an advanced change of pace and a quick first step to manipulate defensive spacing. In Tennessee's system, he excelled at throwing precise dump-down passes and timed lobs to his centers.
