@lnmbeck Yes! My fiance is Korean, so we're doing a small ceremony in Korea for his family that still lives there and then a bigger ceremony in the US later for everyone else!

It's so funny to me when people have the assumption that writing workshops in MFA programs are just full of judgemental assholes with inflated egos because everyone was just chilling in mine. Like we were reading nonfiction swinger memoirs and having a great time 😭😭😭

Bought a necklace based on my book and it got lost in the mail. Spent multiple hundreds of dollars on an art commission for my book and was never given the art. So lmao feeling like this is a sign from the universe that I shouldn't get too attached to this book 👍🏻

@RebeccFung I enjoy it too! But I have to be in the headspace where I *want* to be picking apart stuff. Sometimes I just want to watch something for fun lol

@ehsleeta I actually like it. I must be weird because I can pick apart and still enjoy stuff.

The worst is when you study storytelling so intently that not only can you not read a book without picking it apart, you start to pick apart every movie and TV show you watch too and suddenly nothing is casual fun anymore. That's why me and trashy reality TV are like this 🤞🏻🤞🏻

unfortunately for you, the more you read the more you'll be a critic. you'll start noticing patterns and storylines and flow and the moment u feel it's off in a book... it's so over

Also I mean with good stories AND bad stories. I think there is soooo much good out there too, and I also fixate on that to try and learn why it works so well. So either way I can't just have casual fun lol.

@Tellafrog Oh it's not losing hope at all!! It's just not being able to turn my brain off and relax while watching something because I'm too focused on the storytelling elements. I still fixate on storytelling when the TV show/movie is done really well, even more so probably than if not.

@ehsleeta Don’t lose hope in stories. If it helps, maybe make notes about the irritations you experienced and treat it like prepping to teach a course on the mistakes. Maybe then you can close the notes and keep it separate.

One thing I SWEAR by is intermittently giving myself a day or two a week to detox from writing. I do not write. I do not think about writing. I do not talk about writing. I pretend like I've never written anything in my life. And it is a *lifesaver* at preventing burnout I stg.

@BeccaACarter Such a game changer!! Always leaves me refreshed and excited to get back to writing again instead of always tired and worn out.

If I hear anyone saying YA is shallow and easy one more time I swear I'll bite them. Dude, my YA is so far the most difficult book I've ever drafted. This book is testing my craft
