I recently worked on the Nigeria Music Analytics System, NMAS, a data driven platform built by Meertech Ltd for the National Bureau of Statistics, in partnership with the African Center for Economic Transformation, ACET. The goal was clear: move music economy measurement away from fragmented claims and isolated platform figures, and toward a more structured, transparent, and statistically defensible system. NMAS uses a documented pipeline to collect, normalise, and process music related platform data into structured quarterly indicators. The system was designed for traceability from source data to final output, with clear methodology, explicit transformation logic, and outputs that can be reviewed, checked, and defended. At its core, NMAS turns scattered digital signals into measurable insight for analysis, planning, and policy relevance. Based on feedback flagged by NBS, further improvements are also being made to the currency framework, with alignment to CBN and IMF quarterly benchmark references to strengthen methodological consistency. Nigeria’s creative economy deserves credible measurement infrastructure, and NMAS is a practical contribution in that direction.
