As for white, keeping it lowercased is to reject the “hegemonic grammatical norms” of whiteness (Harris & Patton, 2019, p. 368). I've had to justify why I capitalize Black and lowercase white, but have never needed to justify capitalizing white 3/8

@DrBritWilliams use the scare quotes instead of italics! APA allows quotes for 1st "use of a word or phrase used as an ironic comment, as slang, or as an invented or coined expression" Italics are more for key terms, but that's not how you're using it apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-…
