SCOOP: according to those (many) familiar with this situation, Tuesday am both Ken Lemon President of NABJ and Drew Berry Executive Director of the NABJ told Harris folks she “needed” to be in Chicago in person for the convention. The NABJ shut down the conversation for a virtual town hall. Only after reports of what happened were posted did the NABJ leadership feverishly begin to ask the @VP to now consider a virtual town hall. As of yesterday afternoon @Vp team moved on after being told “no” by NABJ leadership. The NABJ leadership even asked for a VP surrogate replacement like Megan the stallion, Oprah or Barack Obama. The NABJ’s original plan was to move on from the @VP. FACTS!
April is in ATL@ReignOfApril

~@NABJ President @kenlemonnabj has issued a statement. The FAQ leaves a lot of questions unanswered. It also seems to contradict the earlier reporting from former #NABJ Journalist of the year @AprilDRyan. #NABJ24.

@AprilDRyan The problem is this is 2024, not “ 1976” and this is not business as usual.

DENZEL WASHINGTON: IMPORTANCE OF BLACK DIRECTORS Denzel Washington has starred in and directed some great films. Here, he talks about the importance of knowing Black culture when making films about Black people. He was giving an interview while promoting his award-winning movie Fences. It focuses on a working-class African in America who raises a family in the 1950s. Making such films work, says Denzel, is about knowing what it feels to be Black. And that, he argues, is something that can’t be felt by White directors. Makes sense, right?
