Four years ago in the East Room of the White House I was told to sit down during a press conference on midterm election results. I tried to ask about voter suppression. I was continuously told to “sit down.” Four years later,yesterday I was able to ask three questions.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

Gov. Wes Moore has ordered flags flown at half-staff in Maryland today in honor of the late, iconic civil rights leader Jesse Jackson.  Moore will also attend the Jackson funeral service on Friday at the House of Hope in Chicago. Saturday, in keeping with the issues of civil rights, Maryland's first Black Governor travels to Selma, Alabama, to keynote the Legal Defense Fund’s Annual Selma Jubilee in commemoration of the Bloody Sunday protests for Black Americans' right to vote. The annual event also reenacts the March 7, 1965, protests across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, in which Moore will participate. In 1965, the peaceful protests turned violent as those marching were attacked by police using billy club batons, water hoses, and attack dogs.

Democrats have “drawn a line in stone,” according to Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson, when it comes to this partial government shutdown. Thompson is the ranking member of the Homeland Security Committee who asserts that Democrats want more restrictions on ICE, while republicans want more money for ICE and fewer restrictions. This debate comes as Homeland Security has shut down TSA PreCheck at airports.

Mississippi Democratic Congressman Bennie Thompson, the ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, is boycotting this Tuesday's State of the Union address. He says he only attended one of Trump's State of the Union addresses during the Trump years. He attended that speech only to prevent Republicans from shaking the president’s hand.
