@BarneyFlames the idea of an incredibly successful performer who is virtually unknown by the public is pretty good

I hate Elon as much as the next guy but you people have to drop this idiotic argument. SpaceX literally rebuilt NASA’s capability of having manned shuttles in space. If you insist on private sector bad public sector good you’re headed for a future like Argentina’s
aimée 🇮🇪🇵🇸@sapphyreblayze

Genuinely a brilliant example of why neoliberalism just doesn't work. You leave things to the private sector, you get a billionaire's shoddy vanity project rather than the best humanity has to offer.

Average 5%er in Eastern Europe. My Stalinist friend has two Bscs and signed up for a different Master so he can get a Doctorate in Philosophy. He speaks three languages, learning a fourth. He's 30. In a civilized World he would be a minor Governor. Today, he's my drink buddy.

@burntbulb @cafreiman i guess your position is that all post-secondary education should be tuition free at public universities. i think the subsidized tuitions are fine. i paid a fraction of the cost that private school students did and still got a great education. we love in state tuition

@burntbulb @cafreiman you certainly can pay tuition for a K-12 education, i know many who did. hence the whole school voucher debate. sure you do have to pay tuition, but you’re paying the government subsidized price, which is not enough to cover the actual costs of running the institution.

The lack of any fundamental curiosity at all about AI from the left has been one of the most discouraging things of my life, but that’s okay because I will simply become the epicenter of a new and cooler left that likes technology
Taylor Lorenz@TaylorLorenz

Leftists cancelling me for using Claude code and cooking based off the Google AI recipe suggestions… I see why that political movement has absolutely zero power. 🫠

@_ontologic it's not even a right vs left issue (tho AI is more popular with righties). i've noticed one thing in common among people who genuinely love AI and it's that they have little to no inner life.

@burntbulb @cafreiman the whole idea that someone went to a private school so they should be subsidized by the public is odd to me, but hey we were already doing it for decades. you can look at the trump admin fight with the private universities to see how much they rely on federal grant funds lol

@burntbulb @cafreiman universities ARE collectively funded! they have thousands of students paying tuition so they can offer a wide range of services, with grants all over. even more, we have land grant universities throughout the country that provide incredible value for students.

@burntbulb @cafreiman the education of children and adolescents serves a different social function than a four year university degree for adults. the community college level serves as a bridge between the two.

@BarneyFlames imo it’s an overloaded term that refers to a wide range of beliefs and its meaning depends on who you’re talking to

the people poasting RETVRN memes are stupid but its also not true that no one said normal heteronormative marriage is not oppressive, in fact that's the whole point of feminist discourse ! Otherwise what even is feminism about ? "abusive husbands are bad" is not a novel discovery by feminists

@shakoistsLog only anglo-saxons would be like "yo we killed all your leadership, but mutually beneficial outcome right now is settling and just doing trade". i respect it though, it works great in most other cases
