Every time an announcement is made inviting people to “join OCIA” instead of “Classes to become Catholic” or “Catholic class”, an angel loses their wings.

On behalf of the Christians of the #MiddleEast, and of all women and men of good will, I appeal to those responsible for this conflict: cease fire! May paths of dialogue be reopened! Violence can never lead to the justice, stability and peace for which the peoples are waiting.

@FrMatthewLC @PapaEgoLeoni A lack of form is not a defect of form, as per a decree from the Apostolic Signatura in 2005. In Dignitas connubii arts. 5 and 297, no judicial process is needed for lack of form, but there is such a process is used for defect of form. So these are different things.

@PapaEgoLeoni I'm not an expert in canon but many experts indicate civil marriage is included in a defect of form. Ex: "A Defect (or Lack) of Form Case is an administrative process that is used when Catholics marry outside the Church." fallrivertribunal.com/typesofmarriag…

Just an FYI to any Catholic who got married by a justice of the peace: we would love to have a ceremony at Church to fully ratify your marriage. (Technically, it's called a "convalidation," but I think more people refer to it as Lauren did.)

Faced with the possibility of a tragedy of immense proportions, I make a heartfelt appeal to all the parties involved to assume the moral responsibility of halting the spiral of violence before it becomes an unbridgeable chasm. May diplomacy regain its proper role, and may the well-being of peoples, who yearn for peaceful existence founded on justice, be upheld. And let us continue to pray for peace.
