Reducing hazardous fuels in the wildland urban interface? On it. Alongside our interagency partners from the San Juan National Forest and the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, our wildland fire personnel from Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico successfully implemented a prescribed fire for the Bureau of Land Management Tres Rios Field Office. Over a two-day window, wildland fire crews used a combination of hand ignition and drone aerial ignition to complete 300 acres of hazardous fuels reduction in the wildland urban interface near Durango, Colorado. Projects like this are critical for reducing wildfire risk and protecting nearby communities. Photos by Casey Gorsett @COStateFire @forestservice @BLMNational
