Finally met @deekaymotion in person at @ArtBasel . It was great hearing him share how he first got into NFTs, how he gradually started creating, and how he grew alongside the community. We also took a moment to reminisce about the good old days of NFTs 🤣 This year, Deekay had a strong presence at Basel — the organizers even arranged a five-night light show projection on the Central building for ‘Deeple The People’. Around the Zero10 area, it felt completely packed, especially with younger crowds. Many people were not only deeply engaged in studying the fine details of his animated works, but were also curious about how the artworks are minted on-chain. In a way, crypto art still carries a powerful vitality. Even under the shadow of a bear market, the intrinsic value and appeal of art — combined with on-chain ownership and verifiable provenance — continue to position it as a pioneering force within the traditional art world. I also had a great discussion with Deekay on how to balance the artistic nature of crypto art with its trading dynamics. We both agreed that bear markets are ultimately a time for building and accumulation. Looking forward to more opportunities like this to bring crypto art to a broader audience.

This might be one of the most accessible collectibles at this year’s @ArtBasel , from an @artblocks_io artist @harvey_rayner . This time, ArtBlocks showcased a very thoughtful model for audience participation. First, they significantly simplified the payment process: no wallet needed, no gas fees, multiple payment options, and users can simply register with an email to automatically generate a custodial wallet. On-site visitors could even mint their own Art Blocks piece using WeChat Pay. Second, the pricing is very approachable. Whereas ArtBlocks pieces used to cost thousands of dollars or even several ETH, this time they’re priced at just around 1,000 HKD. Finally, Harvey’s work itself creates a strong on-site atmosphere. Collectors can actively participate in the generative process in real time, co-creating the artwork together with the artist—something traditional art simply cannot achieve. I also had some great conversations with @ArtOnBlockchain and @IsmaTaziS at the event. It was truly inspiring to exchange ideas with builders who are constantly evolving and growing. In my view, @artblocks_io , as one of the core platforms in crypto art, has elevated the entire concept of what crypto art can be. Art is no longer something distant or exclusive—it’s something you can participate in, co-create, own, and share. This is also something the broader crypto industry should reflect on: how to transform what was once a niche, geek-driven space into something as accessible and enjoyable as a small “everyday investment game” that even your neighbor’s grandma could take part in. Being down-to-earth in creation isn’t just about experiencing and communicating—it’s about putting yourself in the shoes of a brand-new collector. And one fun highlight: I happened to mint the NFT almost back-to-back with @ysiu on-site, and we took a great photo together to commemorate the moment!
