This is a truly terrible idea. Bilateralizing a trilateral deal means the US becomes the hub and Canada and Mexico the spokes. The only way to have guarantee access to all three markets is then to locate your plant in the US. More than that, it allows the US to play us off against each other. I understand the temptation to panic and throw Mexico to the Trumpian wolves, hoping we will be spared. But it is in our national interest to work together with other countries in containing him, not to cut sly little side deals.

After spending the last week talking to so many people from different communities, including Trump, Stein and Harris voters, I am increasingly convinced the main thing, maybe the only thing, that can weaken Trump and MAGA is suffering. Immense suffering and regret over the next 4 years is the only hope for 2028. Even the most smart and informed people have normalized Trump, forgot his threats, deluded themselves or have incorrect facts and right wing talking points. I don't know how to counter it. Nothing comes close to the right wing information domination.
