“They were given very little information,” Malki said. “Their phones were taken away, their documents were taken away. “They were told to wait in a room.” According to Siembra, the children’s aunt was waiting in the parking lot outside of the federal building when she received a call. “She got a call from a private number saying she should go home because her family would not be coming out,” Malki said. MEMPHIS: As Elon claims xAI will get to the water recycling plant eventually, @Justinjpearson isn’t buying it — and says it shows his priority is burning more methane gas instead…

As the saying goes, AI doesn’t give you the answer, it gives you an answer. It gives you whatever it comes across, no value judgment.

🦔A researcher invented a fake eye condition called bixonimania, uploaded two obviously fraudulent papers about it to an academic server, and watched major AI systems present it as real medicine within weeks. The fake papers thanked Starfleet Academy, cited funding from the Professor Sideshow Bob Foundation and the University of Fellowship of the Ring, and stated mid-paper that the entire thing was made up. Google's Gemini told users it was caused by blue light. Perplexity cited its prevalence at one in 90,000 people. ChatGPT advised users whether their symptoms matched. The fake research was then cited in a peer-reviewed journal that only retracted it after Nature contacted the publisher. My Take The researcher made the papers as obviously fake as possible on purpose. The AI systems didn't catch it. Neither did the human researchers who cited it in real journals, which means people are feeding AI-generated references into their work without reading what they're actually citing. I've covered the FDA using AI for drug review, the NYC hospital CEO ready to replace radiologists, and ChatGPT Health launching this year. All of that is happening in the same environment where a condition funded by a Simpsons character and endorsed by the crew of the Enterprise was being presented as emerging medical consensus. The people making these deployment decisions seem to believe the pipeline from research to AI to patient is more supervised than it actually is. This experiment suggests it isn't supervised much at all. Hedgie🤗 nature.com/articles/d4158…

🚨 The Pentagon summoned the Pope’s ambassador to a closed-door meeting and threatened him. Named official. On record. Undersecretary of Defense Elbridge Colby called Cardinal Christophe Pierre to the Pentagon and delivered this message: “The United States has the military power to do whatever it wants in the world. The Catholic Church had better take its side.” Then a U.S. official invoked the Avignon Papacy — the 14th century moment when the French monarchy used military force to physically remove the Pope from Rome and bend the Church to its will. The Vatican understood the reference immediately. The Pope’s planned visit to America for the 250th anniversary celebration was cancelled. And then something remarkable happened. The Pope didn’t retreat. He pressed harder. He called the war unjust. He called Trump’s threats unacceptable. He told Americans to call Congress.

She called a press conference, out of the blue and apparently unbeknownst to her husband, to deny involvement with something she hasn’t actually been accused of. Cringe family weirdness.

Trump's three angry Truth Social posts in the last hour suggest he may not be too happy about Melania's statement on Epstein. She doesn't bother defending Donald. And her reminder that Epstein didn't act alone is a kind of encouragement to look again into what Donald was up to.

'Boþe groundez and þe greuez, grene ar her wedez, Bryddez busken to bylde, and bremlych syngen For solace of þe softe somer þat sues þerafter...' A beautiful passage from 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight', on how spring triumphs after the testing time of Lent.
