@Cathal_Dennehy there is a South African with a bit of Irish heritage in him racing the 800 semis today. Matthew "Chief" Burnett.

8th place and Team Gold at the World Trail and Mountain Running Championships. Longest ever run for me. A 45 km alpine adventure. Happy with my performance - it was tough! 📸 anderesformat

@gmaxb08 @dshig Need to replace the electrolytes too 🧂. I switched from sports drink to iced sweet tea through the night- homemade sports drink 😄☕️🧂.

One time I ran from our house in North OKC to our parent’s house in Norman- 27 mi = Ultra 😄. Mom had a grilled cheese sandwich, soup, and iced sweet tea ready- my favorite as a kid. Made with love 💖. Happy Mother’s Day to our sweet Momma Susan 💐!

@dshig Magic elixir 🚀🌖! I drank it through the night for my 24Hr World Record- fresh brewed with sugar and a pinch of salt 🤌.

But @StravaSupport you wanna tell me there's nothing you can do to 🚩 cyclists who take part in running segments with their bikes? Like some things don't even need a candle 🕯️to see that it was a motor assisted "run" @Strava

@gmaxb08 No!!! I’m here with some athletes that I support. I will definitely go and watch some action from the championships though. Some amazing athletes on show 🤩

@Thekrisjones Kris, were regular preventative physio sessions part of the prep for the race and did you use compression boots at all as part of your recovery between hard sessions?

It feels harder to not train right now because I'm full of motivation but there is not much point if it makes things worse 🫤 Hopefully this can be sorted with rest and getting on top of stretching and activation (which I stopped doing during the break).

The plan after the marathon was two weeks of easy running for a mental and physical break. I ran a short harder session on Saturday, 13 days post marathon, to see how I felt returning to training but it made some tightness I had in my glute worse.

@runcamille Please let me know once you do. Only been wearing Mach 5s and Rincons for all training and racing and tempted to get the CPs.

@gmaxb08 @stevemagness I got some again recently. I haven’t tested them in a workout yet to see if they help at faster speeds. Definitely prefer non-carbon plated at slower speeds.

We are only at the beginning of the shoe revolution Look at the variation in shoes impact on running economy in elite Kenyan runners (~59:30 half marathon). It's huge! This isn't a one size fits all performance boost This changes how you should think of shoes & performance:

@runcamille @stevemagness Would you still use carbon plated shoe for a 10 or 21k race? (If you were ever to race that short a distance 😉 )

@stevemagness Have felt a lot better, healthier, and faster since going back to non-carbon plated shoes for Ultras the past 2 yrs. The added/better foams and lightweight of shoes compared to ~5-10 yrs ago is a huge advancement. It’s fun to try on old shoes and see how far we’ve come!

@Thekrisjones Great piece Kris. thanks for the detail and the science behind how you've approached Seville can be applied to those of us racing shorter distances as well, very valuable info. Really keen to see how and what you'll be doing post race as part of your recovery. G

Thoughts about marathon training I wrote (mostly) before Seville. I have also started a follow up to reflect on what I think I can learn post race. Let me know what you think! link.medium.com/oDEWZkxwBxb

Question to the heart rate fundis… I’ve got a Garmin 645. What difference bpm do you think it is from the wrist based reading & the belt reading? Hear that wrist heart rate is not accurate and often given as higher?! @ultraashworth @runcamille @SageCanaday @gosharpshooter

@Thekrisjones Thanks for the insight Kris, I only wear spikes for races, so very seldom. My son (17), a 1.51 800 athlete however, does most of his sessions in spikes - to my dismay.

@gmaxb08 I do most of my hard running in racing shoes at the minute. I would wear spikes if I want to run very fast on the track, but not routinely. I think I could do more in 'traditional' flats, rather than super shoes all the time..

Week 7/13: You know you are training for a marathon when you get back into your pajamas after your long run because you know you aren't leaving the house again.
