@J20s1 @ywqmrmq72h @jwestonharvey @Gibboanxious digital compression basically looks at a frame of video, compares it to the next one, and the parts that don’t change (ie: the background) get compressed. this doesn’t work very good if the background has thousands of tiny changes every frame. so they take out the grain

He’s not well known outside of climbing circles. Yesterday was the first time I had ever heard his name.
Now, he is well known. Now, he can get sponsor deals well outside of his regular area. Commercials on legacy media, Super Bowl ads, endorsing products or making his own. He will make millions off this, even tho it’s not on the front end. He’s not stupid.

Let me explain to you how this works. The problem is Alex wanted to climb that building. The producers knew that. So most likely in negotiation they threatened him with another climber, far less known, who would do it for less. At the end of the day Alex had to decide whether or not they were bluffing. They weren't. They would just get some random person no one has ever heard of to do the climb for $50,000 and if got himself killed, it's both insured and an event. So Alex probably came down on his price to just make it happen, even though his legitimate market price is probably millions. That's the entertainment business. The more you want to do something, the more everyone pounces on you. The ones who love it the most will always be the ones who lose the most because the ones who don't love it will exploit it. They are the ones with nothing to lose.

i understand atomic habits got sort of oversaturated but as someone who had slumped into a bit of an executive dysfunction valley for a while it gave me a lot of tools that i’ve used consistently ever since and those tools keep me from going all the way back into the valley

its not 2006 anymore. music production has essentially zero barrier to entry. garageband is free. FL studio has a free full version. for ten bucks a month you can have access to a sample library larger than you could ever need. the only thing stopping you is laziness

I grew up singing. I sang everywhere I went, I wrote songs in my diary, I told teachers that I wanted to be a singer & songwriter when I grew up. But wanting to be a musician in 2006 required resources that a low-income family didn't have. My parents couldn't afford to get me any instruments. They couldn't pay for music lessons. They couldn't get me into studios. A dream I had became just a memory, until now. I am beyond proud and honored to get to work at a company that is enabling music creation for everyone. For the 13 year old kid in their bedroom who dreams of being a musician, you can be one. For all of the professional artists, you can do more of what you love. I really wish Suno existed 20 years ago when I was a kid in elementary school, showing strangers songs I wrote with no way to produce them. But I'm really, really happy that it exists today, for all of the other kids who might need it. We are still just getting started :)

My dad lost his business of 20 years to “legal” migrant labor from Haiti. He was a tree trimmer. Haitian migrants can’t exactly become SAT tutors, so they come and replace tree trimmers. American workers—like my dad—pay the price when cheap foreign labor floods our country.
