Unpopular opinion: Tesla should stop playing games with FSD transfers. Let everyone who paid full price and was an early supporter of the software ability to transfer it to new Teslas FOREVER.

@RobGrieves Enjoy! It’s quite flaky for me (hence beta tag), but way better (and more fun) than standard voice commands!

@ryanjaycowan @jdreimanis After 3+ orbits around the sun with 3X PW2s, I’ve found we’re still tapping into the grid both in summer and winter mostly due to heating and AC (granted these are big, old units), but spring & autumn provide plenty of energy surplus in Perth.

Interesting take. Talking with someone that works in the industry, we both agreed that in fact three phase will become less common as solar and battery storage ramps. We also have similar specs to what you just listed at our place. We hardly touch the grid during the summer. Now with 2 PW3s winter will be more independent than it was for us last winter.

3-Phase Powerwall coming to Germany, nice ! However as someone that has just built a new all electric home with solar + battery + EV .. I've never once felt the need for 3-phase power. It's not necessary. I genuinely hope the focus shifts from "how much power can we get from the grid" to "how much solar and batteries can we put on our house". THAT is what matters, especially for the future.

Yup, three phase needed in WA if you have lots of big circuits that draw a lot. Despite 16.2KW solar with 3X PW2s, we’re still limited by PW gateway to backup a single phase totalling 32A. So in the event of an outage, the lights, sockets, fridge and comms will stay on, but no AC or cooking, so gas burner / BBQ it is! Would be cool if Tesla could provide a 3P gateway for existing setups with multiple PWs, but that’s probably wishful thinking on my part 😊

Maybe if you don’t have a 14kW A/C, 12kW of solar, 2 x Tesla Wall Connectors, a two phase induction stove, three Powerwalls, plans for a pool, and an already all electric home - maybe then you don’t need three phase. But I can tell you, with this much gear and the wiring rule constraints, three phase is almost a necessity. If you’re wiring a new house, three phase should just be the norm, as it offers so much future flexibility and safety.
