🏉 Princess Akiko of Mikasa joined Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene & Princess Gabriella at the 14th Sainte-Dévote Tournament this week. The Princess serves as Honorary Patron of the Japan Rugby Football Union.
From the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation:
“The Sainte Dévote Tournament was born in 2009 following an exchange between the Monegasque Rugby Federation and the Rugby Club Lucciana, in Corsica. The tournament has evolved year after year to become a benchmark in rugby 7s and promote rugby values such as discipline, tolerance, and respect.
The international competition sees young players under the age of 12 compete against each other and allows these children to make unforgettable acquaintances during their stay.”

King Felipe VI of Spain was granted the title of Proto-canon of the Chapter of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in a ceremony presided over by the basilica’s archpriest.
This bond between the Basilica and Spanish monarchy dates back centuries, being officially formalized in 1603.

🇯🇵 🇲🇨 Princess Akiko has joined Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene, Princess Gabriella & Gareth Wittstock at the 14th Sainte-Dévote Tournament.
From the Palais Princier de Monaco:
“This edition, sponsored by Yoann Huget, marks a first with the participation of a team from Japan. An official guest of the Princely Couple, Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko of Mikasa, President of the Japan Rugby Football Union, followed the competition alongside the Princely Family.
In total, 24 teams representing 23 countries have come together for this edition, which is dedicated to the values of sport and peace
H.S.H. Princess Charlene, President of the Monegasque Rugby Federation, stated:
“Rugby is a fantastic school of life, and the Sainte Dévote Tournament is a vehicle for peace. On the field, young players from diverse cultures discover solidarity, humility, and trust in others. This annual event beautifully illustrates these values, which stay with children far beyond the sport.”
After the parade of nations followed by the Monégasque Anthem, the first matches took place on the Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella fields.”
