No one is questioning the merit, intellect, or achievements of students at Jadavpur University. It is indeed a premier institution, and its students have every right to question, debate, and dissent. That is the essence of education. But is that what this debate is really about? When graffiti glorifying slogans like “Free Palestine” and “Azad Kashmir” appears on campus walls, does that fall under healthy academic discourse or does it cross into something far more troubling? When spaces of learning begin to echo with narratives that challenge India’s sovereignty, it is no longer just about student expression. Even voices within Trinamool’s own ecosystem have acknowledged this. Kunal Ghosh, TMC spokesperson who named Mamata Banerjee in the Saradha Chit Fund scam, himself has stated that slogans like “Azad Kashmir” or “Kashmir Mangey Azadi” in Jadavpur University represent anti-India forces and must be dealt with firmly. If that is the position, why this hesitation now? This is the contradiction that cannot be ignored. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not attacked students, he has raised concerns about the growing influence of radical elements that seek to misuse campuses for ideological and political ends. There is a difference between dissent and deliberate destabilisation, and responsible leadership must recognise that line. The real issue is not about defaming Bengal or its institutions. It is about protecting them. For years, there have been repeated concerns about the creeping space given to ultra-left ecosystems within campuses, ecosystems that do not empower students but instead attempt to radicalise and weaponise them. Ignoring this does no service to the bright young minds who come to universities to build their futures. If Mamata Banerjee truly believes in safeguarding academic excellence, then the focus should be on ensuring that institutions like Jadavpur University remain centres of learning, not battlegrounds for divisive and anti-national narratives. Bengal deserves better than political defensiveness. It deserves honest introspection and decisive action. (Video dated 11/03/25)

Hon' ble Mr Prime Minister, Pained to ask: is this the way how you describe the meritorious students of the esteemed Jadavpur University? Is this your concept of decorum and courtesy? Jadavpur University has been receiving top ranks from your Government’s NIRF ranking framework year after year, and you descend to insult that centre of excellence? You stoop so low? The students of the Jadavpur University have earned their place through merit and walk out with degrees, with intellect, with the ability to question. That is not anarchy. That is education and that is excellence. Anarchy is not students raising their voices. Anarchy is using bulldozers as instruments of power instead of justice.
Anarchy is when farmers die and their voices are crushed.
Anarchy is when those convicted of rape and other heinous crimes walk free for political convenience.
Anarchy is denying the poor their rightful dues.
Anarchy is dividing a nation along religious lines for votes.
Anarchy is refusing to face the press, refusing accountability, refusing questions. Anarchy is refusing to acknowledge that Manipur is burning but you are busy with elections. Students protesting do not constitute a breakdown of democracy - it is democracy in motion. Please do not defame the educational institution which was inspired by our early nationalists including Sri Aurobindo as a pioneer. Please do not defame Bengal.

This is how @MamataOfficial behaved with the students of Presidency college, Kolkata and here she is lecturing the PM about Jadavpur university's culture where the SFI ragged a student named Swaponil & murdered him after pushing from hostel's 3rd floor. Shameless, liar as usual.

Those with no legacy in India’s freedom struggle dare to question Bengal’s pride, Jadavpur University. This isn’t politics, it’s a direct attack on Bengal’s intellect and identity. Modi must apologise.

As Mamata Banerjee lectures Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on decorum and respect for students, Bengal must not forget her own record. This is the same Mamata Banerjee who publicly derided a young student, Tanya Bharadwaj, branding her a “Maoist” simply for asking a question about the conduct of Trinamool leaders. That student, by many accounts, was forced to leave Kolkata for her safety and education. Is that her idea of nurturing questioning minds? Let’s be clear, Jadavpur University is indeed a premier institution, a temple of learning that has produced some of Bengal’s finest minds. No one disputes the merit, intellect, or achievements of its students. They deserve the very best, world-class infrastructure, academic freedom, and above all, safety. But that is precisely where the problem lies. Why does Mamata Banerjee continue to shield the architects of anarchy within Jadavpur University? Under the TMC’s watch, the campus has repeatedly witnessed deeply disturbing incidents: ▪️ A young, bright student was ruthlessly bullied and driven to suicide. ▪️ Another student's life was cut short, mysteriously dying in the campus pond. ▪️ Anti-national slogans are chanted with absolute impunity. ▪️ Vice-Chancellor appointments have been reduced to a corrupt, political circus, paralyzing academics. This is not about silencing debate. This is about protecting students from a radical ultra-left ecosystem that is systematically hijacking campuses and attempting to indoctrinate young minds. Students raising questions is democracy. But exploiting campuses to normalize extremism, intimidation, and lawlessness is not. When the Prime Minister raises concerns about such trends, he is not insulting students, he is standing up for the silent majority of bright, hardworking youth who come to institutions like Jadavpur University to build their future, not to be dragged into ideological battlegrounds. The uncomfortable truth is this: Mamata Banerjee rose to power in 2011 with the backing of ultra-left elements. That legacy continues to shape her political choices even today. She cannot act against them because they are part of her political foundation. The TMC and the ultra-left are not adversaries, they are enablers of each other. Bengal’s youth are not instruments for political experimentation. They are the future of India. They deserve safety, opportunity, and an environment free from fear and coercion, not campuses held hostage by radicalism and violence. If Mamata Banerjee truly cares about students, she should start by cleaning up the system she has allowed to decay.

Pradeep Gupta of Axis My India tells @ndtv that 6 out of 10 voters being approached are refusing to reveal who they voted for. Typically, only about 10% of respondents decline to speak to pollsters. In West Bengal, that number was around 20% in the past. This time, it has more than doubled. Gupta believes this reluctance to speak is what makes the West Bengal election extremely unpredictable — and very tough to call. Catch Pradeep Gupta on @ndtv as he shares insights from the phase 1 seats after being on the ground.
