The look and feel of La Fronde is a hybrid — modern European typeface meets off-kilter colors/textures inspired by the '90s Riot Grrrl zine era and my time covering the D.C. punk scene while I was a features writer for WaPo.

More on La Fronde: The project is named after a 19th century French newspaper — the first of its kind to be run entirely by women. The writing was fearless, incisive and unapologetic in its coverage of women's issues. Exactly the spirit we're trying to capture.

It's hard to see so many valuable D.C. news outlets like @DCist and @WaPoExpress shut down over the years. After I retired @DCMUSICDOWNLOAD they were one of the few that covered the local music scene, and now the city has virtually no publications dedicated to this coverage.
