The shooting yesterday at #Brown_University is the 29th multiple-fatality shooting at US college campuses since 1990, claiming the lives of 122 victims in total. More than half of the assailants were over 25 and one-third over 30. @AP @Northeastern

During the FIFA #WorldCup2026 draw yesterday, #trump suggested that we join the rest of the world by adopting the term 'football' instead of 'soccer.’ Well, by that logic, we should join the rest of the world by calling the ‘Gulf of America’ the ‘Gulf of Mexico.’

Last night’s mass killing in Stockton, CA is the 17th of the year with 4+ victim fatalities, according to a database from the AP/USA TODAY/Northeastern University. Fourteen have been shootings. This year has seen the fewest number since at least 2006. @AP @USATODAY @Northeastern

#DonaldTrump needs to change hats. A #MAGA cap is appropriate for a presidential candidate, but not for a sitting president. He is president of the entire nation, not just MAGA nation. The president constantly wearing a MAGA hat is divisive. Instead, Trump should wear a #USA hat.

RFK, Jr. said yesterday that he fired the CDC director because she was untrustworthy. It is more like she was considered unTrumpworthy. @CDCemergency @CDCDirector

Be careful not to misunderstand the hundreds of school shootings reported by various databases. Almost 90% of these incidents are AT school, not IN school, that is, on school grounds. Many occur at night, on weekends, during summer, and do not involve students. Many do not involve any injuries, and few result in student fatalities. From 2010 through 2023, 94 students were fatally shot inside K-12 schools by an assailant, and 64 of them were from the four extreme cases: Sandy Hook, Parkland, Santa Fe, and Uvalde.

Notwithstanding the tragedy this morning at a Minneapolis catholic school, mass shootings with 4+ killed or injured are down 24% this year over last, and this is after a 24% decline last year over the previous, according to Gun Violence Archive data. @GunViolence

@JenniferMascia Hard to conclude that 5 mass shootings this July 4 were much fewer than previous years. From 2013 through 2024, there were 66 on July 4th, for an average of 5.5 per year. @AP

Celebratory gunfire results in injuries and deaths every 4th of July. This year was no different — though there appear to be fewer instances than in years’ past 🧵

Combination of celebratory gatherings of large numbers, heat, alcohol, and should an argument break out and someone has a concealed firearm, many can get injured or killed. And in some cases, a crowd just gives an armed person an opportunity for mayhem. We know that mass shootings often happen at parties, including birthday parties. Well, July 4 into July 5 has lots of them.

Last Saturday, July 5, had 13 mass shootings (4+ shot, either injured or killed, based on the Gun Violence Archive data). It is likely that many involved July 4th gatherings that spilled past midnight. This is the second most of any date since January 2013. The only date with more was 7/5/2020, which was a Sunday, with 15—although 10 of these occurred between 12 AM and 3 AM, most likely spillovers from July 4th evening gatherings.     Now, from 2013 to the present, these three dates have the most mass shootings:   5-Jul 74 4-Jul 71 1-Jan 38   @northeastern

I read the piece in @TeamTrace noting a drop in JJuly 4 mass shootings. Well, that’s not completely accurate, since Saturday July 5, saw 13, the second most of any date since 2015, based on the @GunDeaths data. many would likely have been related to spillover celebrations after midnight of the 4th. Saturday had 13 mass shootings (4+ shot, either injured or killed, based on the Gun Violence Archive data). This is the second most of any date since January 2013. The only date with more was 7/5/2020, which was a Sunday, with 15—although 10 of these occurred between 12 AM and 3 AM, again most likely spillovers from July 4th evening gatherings. Now, from 2013 to the present, these three dates have the most mass shootings: 5-Jul 74 4-Jul 71 1-Jan 38

In Sydney, Australia, where private ownership of firearm is severely restricted, a man fatally stabbed six and wounded several others in a shopping mall. Had this been in the U.S where guns are far too easy to acquire, the death toll would likely have been greater. #guncontrol
