After cooking bacon for potato salad I had leftover bacon grease. The plan for tomorrow morning is omelettes, so you bet your bippy I am frying mushrooms in bacon grease for omelettes tomorrow. You can take the girl out of the Midwest…

@vurnt22 FYI you can just refer to the fire fighting planes, choppers, and their pilots as “Air Attack”.

The firefighters on the ground, the fireplane pilots, the fire chopper pilots, & the ppl fighting with watering hoses in shorts. trying to help their neighbors save their homes, & rescuing pets are REALLY doing the “Hero” Thing. Not self-claimed so called “Patriot” cosplay 💙.

@bscholl @stevesi The root cause of traffic in Manhattan is the lack of good mass transit from areas outside it, particularly NJ. I’d LOVE to not drive into Manhattan but my only option is to drive 10 minutes to a train station that has maybe a dozen runs a day & takes over 2 hours.

IMHO the lack of a price system is the root cause of traffic. As long as road access is free, we will be plagued by congestion. Realtime pricing is the future, and if it was done right would be super “progressive” as top earners would bid up prime time access and end up providing most of the funding. This would then enable us to phase out gas and vehicles taxes in favor of access-based pricing. On net, this can be designed to shift the burden away from lowest income consumers. (I’m not saying NYC nailed this, my guess is they did not).

Such a shame that it’s come to this. My dad sailed on her three times including his immigration trip to the USA in 1959. The SS United States *still* holds the transatlantic speed record and deserves a better fate than becoming an artificial reef.

@Capt_Caffiend I’m O- and did not contract COVID until Omicron got me (despite multiple vaccinations) on visit to the UK in June 2022. My case was pretty mild.
