We are extending the deadline for organizer nominations to be March 7th! Our team is under critical personnel shortage now and we greatly need support from our community. Please do not hesitate if you're interested, and please help encourage trainees to join!

Reminder: the nominations for new organizers are due Feb 28th! Please help spread this opportunity and nominate candidates who are interested, or ask your nominator/advisor to email us. We are eager to have new people join in the team!

Tonight, another wonderful student Ashley Steinkrauss is presenting her thesis on “Sleep Quality and its Links to Attention” in the Flamingo Room at UG-A5. Hope to see you there! #VSS2021

With in-person data collected in the before-times, we track both eye and 3D hand movements during a sustained attention task and find subtle changes in hand movement timing that predict when a person is losing focus and more likely to commit an error. 2/3

Good morning in the eastern US! My excellent students Emi Schwab and Nhi Doan are presenting their work this morning (right now!) on "Lapses in sustained attention predicted by changes in visually-guided movements” at B63 in the brilliantly named Manatee room. 1/3

Cognitive psych is often traced back to the 1950s. Psychology is often traced to Wundt's lab in 1879. Textbooks speak of "proto-psychologists" like Fechner & Helmholtz in the 1800s... Westerners all. Have you heard about Ibn al-Haytham, whose work predated them by 100s of years?

I’m giving a talk at virtual Psychonomics at 9:20 today (#126) on how salient distractors produce early quitting in visual search (despite the name, it’s in the attention and cognitive control section rather than the visual search section). Hope to see you there! #Psynom2020

Come check out our OPAM poster at 11:30 CST - we use an adaptive real-time triggering procedure to present feedback at key moments when we think participants are losing focus during a sustained attention task. Stop by to see what we found! #OPAM2020 osf.io/mr4gw/

If a journal increased submission costs by ~$200 so that they could pay reviewers ~$50, how would that influence the chances you would submit to that journal? Please RT for a farther reach!

@leberandy big advantage of synchronous lecture is they can ask questions when things are unclear (in the chat or audio) and you can ask live questions/clicker questions; i can see the flipside though of difficulty focusing for a long zoom lecture...

@bradpwyble Yes, been using it for three years in classrooms and used it in spring when we shifted online. I really like it - One big plus is it integrates nicely with ppt.
