Yesterday, I was blocked from entering the Republic of Turkey. I flew into Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport from Yerevan, Armenia, for purposes of a tourist visit. At passport control, I was taken aside, informed 'you are on the blacklist,' detained for 16 hours and deported back.

Kararda filmin, toplum barışını tehlikeye atacak provokatif içerik taşıdığı gerekçesiyle yasaklandığı ve yasak kararının güvenlik nedeniyle uygulanacağı belirtiliyor. Bu yasak kararının, sanatı ve ifade özgürlüğünü kısıtlayan bir müdahale olduğuna inanıyoruz. Festivaller, sanatın ve kültürel çeşitliliğin kutlandığı, insanları bir araya getiren nefes alma alanlarıdır. Bu yasaklama, yalnızca bir filmi değil, tüm festivali anlamından ve amacından uzaklaştırmaktadır. Bu nedenle, MUBI olarak seyircimizin bizden beklediği doğru duruşu sergilemek istiyor ve MUBI FEST İstanbul’un tamamını iptal etme kararı aldığımızı üzülerek bildiriyoruz.
