It’s a good hire. He understands where the game is today and has proven he can coach. You have to think there was some internal reflection on potential regret of passing on him, especially if he went to BC, has success, and started beating Syracuse every year. That would be really hard to swallow.

I agree with both points. The real issue is agreeing on the tournament’s purpose. If the goal is to crown the best team, this format isn’t built for that. When a top seed wins, it’s seen as validation. When a mid-major wins, it’s just a great story. I.e. No mid-major is beating a top seed in a best of 7. Upsets are fun early, but they generally lead to weaker games later, which is a fair point. This format creates a rooting bias against P4 teams, as if they have it easier, which overlooks how hard they work too. I think it’s just a fun 3 weeks that may or may not crown the best team in the country.

While technically true our bodies are not bomb-calorimeters. You will digest a candy bar differently if you eat a bag of spinach then the candy bar then another bag of spinach verses just eating the candy bar. If you eat your calories in sugars/carbs you won’t burn stored fat as easily. Calories are one data point in a complex set that determines how much and how quickly we gain or lose weight. To whatever extent possible, they need to influence game dates and times to get more evening games on the schedule. It’s become clear no matter how good the team is, people are hesitant to sit inside on a nice Fall day in central New York. Nice weekend days that time of year are sacred. It’s nice having an indoor stadium come December but counterproductive in September.
