@ParrottCBPP Yes to all of this. And if we’re serious about lowering costs without hurting people, there’s a proven way: pay family caregivers. Paying family caregivers saves Medicaid $60K/year per person on nursing homes and ED visits—$1B saved for every 16.7K caregivers supported.

We should be talking about making housing more affordable, keeping premiums low for the 24 million ppl in ACA marketplace coverage, & lowering deficits responsibly by raising taxes on the wealthy, lowering Rx costs, & lowering Medicare costs that are not improving health.

With attn turned to how Rs resolve their process disputes on the budget/tax bill, let’s review what really matters: how the R agenda will take away health care & food assistance from ppl who need it to pay for tax cuts the wealthy definitely don’t need. cbpp.org/research/feder…

@SenatorBennet 💯 If the goal is better health, this is the wrong way to get there. Instead of laying off public health workers, let's pay family caregivers. Every family caregiver formally enlisted saves Medicaid over $60k/yr on nursing homes and ED visits—$1B saved for every 16.7K supported

President Trump’s mass HHS layoffs include employees who: ✅Oversee food and drug safety ✅Track bird flu ✅Administer health insurance programs for nearly half the country If this administration is trying to make America healthier, they are doing a terrible job.
PBS News@NewsHour

Employees across the massive U.S. Health and Human Services Department began receiving notices of dismissal on Tuesday in an overhaul ultimately expected to lay off up to 10,000 people. to.pbs.org/42bkoDj

@RachelBitecofer These cuts aren't just cruel, they're short-sighted. There are better ways to save: paying family caregivers saves Medicaid $60K/year per person on nursing homes and ED visits—$1B for every 16.7K caregivers supported. Protect services *and* save money.

@catgyoung 💯 What if instead of gutting our public health infrastructure, we invested in the caregivers who quietly sustain it? Paying family caregivers saves Medicaid $60K/year per person on nursing homes and ED visits—$1B saved for every 16.7K caregivers supported.

10,000 employees laid off from HHS today under RFK Jr.’s orders. Massive cuts to FDA safety inspections, CDC disease surveillance, and NIH research. These aren’t just jobs - this is a staggering blow to America’s public health infrastructure.

@kareniristucker What if instead of cutting vital support for older adults, we backed the people already caring for them? Paying family caregivers saves Medicaid $60k/year per person on nursing homes and ED visits—$1B saved for every 16.7K caregivers supported.

Meals on Wheels, which serves older adulta and people with disabilities, to be cut by Elon Musk/DOGE. The gutting comes as the SSA is cutting 7,000 jobs, while also closing offices and curtailing telephone services. marketwatch.com/story/agency-f…

@JudyChuCampaign Totally agree—there's a better way to save $1B. Support and pay family caregivers instead. For every family caregiver formally enlisted in caring for their disabled loved one, Medicaid saves over $60k per year on nursing homes and ED visits.

Millions of seniors and disabled people are going to lose access to Meals on Wheels as the Dept. of HHS is being dismantled. Is it "waste" to provide food to the elderly and disabled? The Trump Administration is harming American people. marketwatch.com/story/agency-f…

@AHCJ Really appreciate this piece. Caregivers—especially in low-income families—are already stepping in to fill so many gaps. States can’t afford to leave them out of the conversation.

@PADHSArkoosh We love to see Pennsylvania leading with integrity. These programs matter too much to risk getting it wrong.

Medicare will be paying nurses and nursing assistant’s salaries. How’s is that going to work. States will have to change scope of practices. I see this as a disaster. Will lead to increase of elderly abuse and neglect. We already had a shortage of nurses and nursing assistants in American.

So, the most important question to all will be, “are the payments payable to family members?” Or only to strangers who do not know our loved one and they do not know. What we need and what anyone in the situation need is assistance to allow them to adapt their home and stay home with a parent, aunt/uncle/cousin or friend, who can no longer take care of themselves. Funds to modify a bathroom, bedroom, pay for adaptive equipment around the home and without involving outsiders.

@ArtCandee @KamalaHarris Medicare does not pay for Nursing Homes and already pays for nurses to come to the home so patients do not have to stay longer in a hospital - Kamala is spreading false info again

@ArtCandee @KamalaHarris Medicare already covers home health care. Check out the Medicare home helth web page. Here is an excerpt: Medicare's home health benefit covers skilled nursing care and home health aide services provided up to seven days per week for no more than eight hours per day.

@ArtCandee @KamalaHarris Medicare reimbursement for nursing homes has been stagnant for decades. Facilities are grossly underfunded and, in turn, understaffed and undersupplied. Home care is great, if there are staff to do it.
