I read a lot. I called my firends and we all met up at the park. Or they'd come over and we'd play some sort of modified baseball in the front yard (modified so we wouldn't break windows). Or we'd just go ride our bikes around. Play with our action figures. Play board games. Eventually we got Atari, or ColecoVision or Intellivision, or even Apple 2 computers and we started playing video games at home instead of at the arcade. Once we could drive we'd head down into the city and hang around there too. We went to dances, sports events, would go wade in the creek, catch frogs in Lake Louise, swing at the school playground. Explore the town and find out where all the streets actually went. There was always *something* to do, if we wanted.

I've met one of the members of this band. One of my friends married him, so we all got together for dinner when I was on a business trip in SoCal a few years ago. He's also written children's books so he signed a copy for my daughter. He also co-created that Yo Gabba Gabba kids show and does a lot of illustration work - the current version of "Ranger Rick" is by him.

You've never seen anything by Twice, I take it? They are serotonin in music form. The ability of nearly every song they sing to make anyone listening just smile and not be sure why is their commonly cited superpower. I am hardly ever unhappy when my daughter shows me their latest release. Not every song, but a surprisingly high amount of them, especially their older work. An example: youtube.com/watch?v=rRzxEi…

I used to like to watch streamers platy Civilization games to learn some tips, tricks, and synergies I hadn't thought of, but I noticed real quick that they all exclusively played on "Deity" level and this were incredibly constrained in how they had to play so as to be able to gain a victory over all the advantages that the "computer opponents" had over the player. It was incredibly boring to watch as a result. Until I quit the Civ series, I continued to play the lower diffculty levels so I could actually play around with it, actuallyl build a world wonder instead of having to conquer it, etc. Way more fun for me.

EASY MODE IN GAMES IS FOR TOURISTS, CUCKS, GAY AND FEMALE okay, but it's also for: - people with full time jobs, three kids and zero free time - people with arthritis who used to speedrun ghosts n goblins in the 80s - people who just want to enjoy the story without a migraine - and people with a 200 game backlog who would like to finish at least one before they die call us tourists, we'll just keep doing what makes us happy
Leonel G@Leonel_Gun

@bonniepetitex No, people that play in baby mode are tourists, cucks, gay or female. They are not real gamers they will come with a lot of excuses but the games of old didn't come with difficulty selection for weak "gamers".

I lost my IG account some years back after I set it to private and deleted all of my pics off of it. No idea why, their email just said that I violated the rules and sent a link to the entire list of rules, never specifiying which rule I was violating. I was able to appeal and did so, even sending them a selfie holding a post-it I'd written a number they'd sent to me on, but still got banned. Oddly enough, they didn't touch my FB account, despite the accounts being linked. The only difference I saw in my life is that if someone sent me an IG link that I'd get a popup asking me to sign in before it would show me whatever the link was to, but since I was banned, well.... I haven't clicked on IG links since finding that out, and I've honestly not noticed any difference in my life by not having IG available to me. My FB I really just use to chat with a couple of former co-workers, who I can also reach via other messaging services, so if I lost that it wouldn't really affect me either.

Meta suspended my FB account because an Instagram account I haven't touched in over 12 months apparently doesn't follow some rule. I'm told to log in to that account to appeal, but I can't; it's no longer there. I don't have access to Meta Accounts until I appeal from the account I don't have access to because it's deleted. This is a gift.

So.. the other day I mentioned learning of a "Super Typhoon" in the Pacific that was going to hit american territory, and metioned that I thought it would probably be ignored. Today I went looking to see if I could find any news reports about the aftermath, and all I could find was this 1 local paper from Guam reporting on it, and it's focus was more on how *the entire power grid going down* affected 1,800 tourists rather than the ~170,000 residents of the island. Kinda sad, IMO. pacificislandtimes.com/post/sinlaku-d…

NIGHTMARE GPS STORY: So I'm driving to meet my sister at her nursing home where she is convalescing in the mountains of West Virginia. I'm following my GPS and it tells me to turn down this gravel road. I figure ok, this is probably only a hundred feet or so. No, it was 30 miles of gravel, potholes coal dust and dodging massive coal trucks passing the opposite direction. Damn you GPS! My brand new car driving through HELL for 30 miles. I haven't tried to wash the car yet so I'm hoping there are no big scratches. What a nightmare! Has a GPS ever led you astray?

@CynicalPublius These 3 men are "just Reservists" and were "in a safe area" in Kuwait but they were attacked, watched 6 of their friends die, and now have Purple Hearts which awarded this past Sunday. I think they most definitely qualify as veterans.

I get slightly mad at veterans who feel it is unfair that they call themselves veterans because they never served in a combat zone. I always tell them: "You raised your right hand. You were ready to die for your country. You're a veteran." This is particularly true for Cold War vets who stared down the Soviets. There should be an official Cold War Service Medal.
Happy Captain@EODHappyCaptain

Social media proves that No one gatekeeps being a veteran, like a veteran It seems online there is always a reason you’re not part of the club. You don’t have the right award. You didn’t see combat. You saw the wrong type of combat For what it’s worth, I’m proud of all of you.

@DaddyWarpig I mostly read litrpg serialized slop on Royal Road anymore. It's not "high literature" but It's cheap, it's fun, and it passes the time :P If I saw this description for a story there, I'd skip right over it.... It sounds absolutely execrable.

I'm not trying to be mean just to be mean, maybe this is a great book, but the description just gives me nightmares because it's so generic. Maybe this is what F&SF looks like to outsiders reading the descriptions, but to me this just looks like modules from other popular series taken apart and put back together like legos: Enemies to Lovers, Fae, Dragon Shifters, Secret Rebellion, and the Hunger Games, I mean, Fae Games. Even the structure of the name (A NOUN of NOUN and NOUN) was pioneered by a popular series. There is no hint of anything surprising or new. With such books, the only determiner of quality is how well this particular writer did it. NB1: WOMEN LOVE DANGEROUS MEN THEY CAN TAME NB2: MASCULINE PROTAGONISTS HAVE TO STRUGGLE TO BECOME GREAT, FEMININE PROTAGONISTS WERE GREAT ALL ALONG AND JUST HAVE TO DISCOVER IT WITHIN THEMSELVES NB3: THIS IS WHAT THEYVE TURNED MY BELOVED EPIC FANTASY INTO LOOK AT WHAT THEYVE DONE TO MY BOY -- A fae rebel. A ruthless dragon commander. And a deadly trial that will turn their lives upside down. Trapped in the Seelie Court by a forest of thorns, Selena Hale lives at the mercy of the dragon shifters. Her only chance to gain her freedom is by entering the Atonement Trials: a deadly competition that pits fae magic users against each other. Only three people can win, and Selena intends to be one of them. There is only one problem. Draven Ryat, the ruthless commander of the dragon shifter army, is determined to make her lose. He symbolizes everything that she hates, and if he finds out that she is also a member of the secret fae rebellion, he will not only mess with her chances to win, he will kill her. But the more time she spends with him, the more she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him. And nothing is more dangerous in a lethal trial than a distracted heart. Especially one that beats for the enemy…

"Cruising speed" efficiency is best at about 40-50% of engine capacity, so for fuel efficiency the "red line" needs to be about double the cruise speed. It's also useful for safety to have some extra "umph" to be able to avoid hazards and whatnot too, meaning you need "more power" than a minimum as well.
