The great @martyweilwapost is leaving The Post after 60 years. Here’s his speech on the occasion of his 50th

I’m among the hundreds laid off today by The Post. It was a dream to write about education for @postlocal. I don’t have answers over what future coverage of Maryland schools will look like. If you have job tips, please send them my way

Laid off from the Washington Post, along with the entire roster of Middle East correspondents and our editors. Hard to understand the logic. But I am grateful for my incredible colleagues, whose grit and dedication to the reporting and each other I will miss dearly.

I'm heartbroken to announce that I've been laid off from my position at The Washington Post. Working at this newspaper, and especially being a foreign correspondent covering Iran and Turkey over the last few short months, was a dream come true for me.

NEWS: The cuts were so severe that at least one department head asked to leave The Post rather than be included in the planning. Peter Finn, The Post's international editor, requested that he be laid off once he learned about the scope of the cuts to his section. nytimes.com/2026/02/04/bus…

🚨☀️BREAKING NEWS (personal… and bittersweet): After nearly 11 years, I'm leaving POLITICO. I’ll always be grateful to this place that taught me how to cover Washington. It’s been a fun ride. But ultimately, the company and I were on divergent paths — and it just made sense. I’m *stoked* for the next chapter and to build something new. More on that coming soon… 👉In the meantime, please support my work covering power in Washington by signing up here to be part of my email list (which is vital to supporting independent work): forms.gle/g23VtdDL8qGuba…
