Made a weird little realtime constellation project and got way too into it. It was first a cool telemetry dashboard but this seems cooler. The concept is, Everyone becomes a spark in a shared orbit. Try it out below 👇 What feature should i add to it?

Is minimalism an actual design philosophy or is it just a cowardly escape hatch for people terrified of attempting real design?

@10xcleandev Definitely. But don't you think it would also make the development of your personal projects faster?

@kenrt_ AI writes about 50% of code for me at work (token limits) while on personal projects I do everything manually. Speed is more or less the same. With AI I can just have the agent work while I attend useless meetings TDD VS non-TDD is the real deal for speed if you look at lead time

I see a lot of highly experienced software devs/engineers with 10+ years of experience on X state that they haven't written a line of manual code in months. Is this true for everyone? Is this becoming the norm?

@kenrt_ You are looking at the wrong thing.. Engineering managers and very senior devs have been shipping code that have not written manually either

What is the new 'foundational' skill that separates a Senior Engineer from a Junior one? Is it system design? Prompt engineering? Or something else entirely? I would like to hear some thoughts from experienced engineers.

Execution is no longer the separator. Now, it’s taste and idea. We now have the power to build anything, but time challenges us to decide what is actually worth the cost of our attention. The hardest part isn't the code, it’s knowing what deserves to exist.

ctrl override 2026
ctrl override 2026@Mattkleonard78·
Welcome to ctrloverride.com (early access). Ctrl Override is an online OS website that runs within your desktop or television web browser. There is no add-ons, apps or downloads to worry about. The website runs from a custom made web server built in C/C++ hosted on a personal home computer. Development of website was done using a custom developed editor and language called English Sourcery. The editor compiles and shows a preview in real time as the programmer types, which flags bugs and mistakes instantly, reducing debugging time. This editor that was used to build the site will eventually be a feature built into the site itself, making Ctrl Override a hub for programmers and web development.Welcome toctrloverride.com The retro windows look and feel was chosen for a few reasons. Nostalgia for the old school fellows that remember the good old times of the Windows XP days. Also there is the visual ques of pressed in buttons when you press them, which modern flat styles fail to do. Then there is simple call to action. With interfaces that resemble ones that everyone remembers, it's easier to guess what action is expected. When people see a taskbar, menu, or window, they should intuitively know that those interfaces can be dragged, resized, minimized, maximized, closed or right clicked on, just like any window of an operating system. Most advance websites have unique interfaces that often come with a learning curve, with visitors only using a small subset of available features. While the minimalist approach is the trend, it has downsides of low control and being simple. We want to pack in many powerful features, but also, we want to avoid the issue of maximalist overdrive. So we chose a middle ground to minimize an intimidating first impression, while holding on to maximal control. Once the users feel comfortable with things, they can customize the look and feel to their own preference. Features as of April 20 2026. Two games, Defuser (a better minesweeper clone) and Padlock, both and point and click puzzle type games. Each game has their own leaderboard that dates back many years and is updated in real time once a level is completed. So far the two games are placeholders for many to come once the play system is standardized. Other games will be created from the website using English Sourcery from any developer that wishes to create. They can build from scratch, or fork and extend an already developed game. There's a Message window dedicated to chat. There is a The Public Lounge room with a history going back 7 years. We have two scrollbars to help navigate the indefinite lengths that a chat can have. One scrollbar is for relative motion moving up or down, and the other scrollbar is for absolute jumps. There is the ability to create any chatroom by using the room input that a visitor may wish to create, just tell your friends to enter the same room. Currently only The Public Lounge saves chat history. Direct messaging saves messages at each others end, and is not public or stored in any server. To enter DM, just click on one another. Run - window for running Note - text editor Imagine - Image viewer Leaderboard - for the games Watch - a video player Ini - settings Browse - window for browsing. Page - browsing websites Youtube - browsing youtube playlists Wallpaper - app that allows users to change the background image. Custom web browser that allows user to surf the internet, manage links and files. Drag and drop links and files directly onto it. Files and folders structure to allow users to browse, manage, open, save, delete, move, rename files, folders and links. Right Click Menus that allow fast access to file and folders. Easy upload and download to ones computer. Ctrl Menu to allow quick access to programs, files and folders. Sub menus popup when you hover over them. Taskbar input for those who like to type commands. Examples: The command "/maximize play" will maximize the play window The command "/minimize explore" will minimize the play window Hover over interface elements to view the commands. The vision is to expand a network of peer to peer self hosting clients from home computers without any beginners hurtles, starting with the main man in the middle interlay. Server side traffic that normally requires Apache, PHP and router port forwarding is simplified to just JavaScript stepping in and relaying out through the network. To be continued.

@kenrt_ Wrote my first programs by hand in ~1985. I have written code manually ever since, most recently last week. I do use AI selectively where it helps to write code, but mostly I find it to make things more tedious, not less. It's a great search engine though.
