This is very common among educated Indonesians; They learned some rules of thumbs from school, without realizing that what they learned are approximations
For example: Some people still insist that when writing a paper, references older than 5 years are "improper"; Apparently this rule was taught to them by their lecturers; They didn't even bother to ask: "Is this just heuristics?", so they end up believing that older papers are "bad"

The main issue with heuristics is that a lot of people who use them don't realize that they're using heuristics; The mistake the proxy for the real thing. When it so happens that the heuristics break down on certain edge cases, those people will end up being confidently wrong

You can see this phenomenon everywhere among Indonesians:
- People believing that processed foods are universally unhealthy
- People believing that "improper spellings" implies incorrect arguments
- People believing that "herbal" stuff -> Universally safe / healthy
- People believing that overcharging is universally bad regardless of the device being involved
The list is endless. Those people basically learned something from some sources but they never asked themselves: What is the limit of this categorization? Is it just a rule of thumb? In what context can it be inaccurate? A significant amount of knowledge / categorization is assumed to be "universally applicable" unless explicitly stated otherwise. Nuance is assumed to be nonexistent unless it's elaborated
