@le_comber @dasingleton That is interesting. The final caveat is important too: Limitation This analysis deals with precision alone. Bias (and sometimes mistakes) may often have a bigger effect on a mean than does precision.

Calculate exp(0.000010) with the correct number of sig figs. An example like this needs to be in every discussion of sig figs, or just don’t bother. You are doing as much harm as good. All of my students have learned the process. Very few have been taught the idea.

@m_r_evans I think so too but was curious about what you thought. In my experience scientists try very hard to communicate what they do (when I was a journalist, they were my favourite people to interview for exactly that reason).
