@ScottJenningsKY If it was so important, he shouldn’t have fucked it up so catastrophically by refusing to enlist or even talk to allies, by not preparing the American people in any way, and by making strategic blunder after strategic blunder, and generally making it up as he went along.

Allied leaders stopped trying to find hidden logic behind Trump's actions. They understand any contribution they make will count for nothing. Few days later, Trump will not even remember it happened — Anne Applebaum, The Atlantic. 1/

Going to war with a country, then immediately floating the idea of lifting sanctions on its oil to prevent your own economic collapse, is the definition of strategic failure

@Breaking911 Now he should sign an executive order to ensure that every hotdog has mustard. He has that power too.

Uh huh. The LibraryThing policy is "do as much as possible on the back end."

Working on a blog post about how adaptations drive library patron interest. Check out these charts of the Hail Mary Project and Bridgerton.

@Faber_Indeed Greek has a lot of defective verbs, where one verb ended up subbing for another. phero oiso for example. We have to wonder why the Greeks decided to ditch the old forms. I think they were lashing out at the verbs.

The Greek Verb system is so nasty that an Italian published a little cheating book of forms, "Tutti i Verbi Greci," in 1955, and, at least before everything went digital, I'd never met a grad student who didn't have a copy.

El grec clàssic és la llengua més difícil amb què he topat mai (i he estudiat llatí, alemany, francès i grec modern entre d'altres). Aprendre les seves declinacions irregulars, els seus 12 infinitius i 36 participis per verb (no és broma) és una magistral lliçó de rigor i esforç.

@JamesSurowiecki In fairness, a LOT of people don't get this. BBC tonight said that the US didn't need to care about the global price of natural gas since we are a net exporter.

Hachette just cancelled the publication of a popular (fiction) book facing credible allegations of AI use The most fascinating part is watching readers edit their Goodreads ratings in real time People who loved the book when they read it now hate it if AI was involved 🤔
