I’m not a feminist and I’ve made that clear. I want to set the record straight about my life. I spent some of the best years of my life dealing with family emergencies and a relationship that never progressed. I even moved interstate for this man — we were penfriends and he was on deployment in Somalia — who never wanted to commit; after a year of dating with no cohabitation (I insisted on this; these are my values) and no talk of marriage, I returned home to face a serious family crisis. No man has ever asked me to marry, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t met men; no one has been interested enough in me to ask me to marry or even go on a date. I’ve never lived in a cupboard; I work and live in the world like everyone else, and I’ve travelled extensively — my first trip was to Egypt. I’ve had a lot of problems with fluctuating weight and only found out a few years ago that I’m intolerant to a number of foods. I have spent considerable time and money trying to address those problems. I’m very committed to fitness and I’m finally getting results, but who wants to date a fat girl? I understand that reality. Do YOU want to date a fat girl? If you want to debate ideas, do it with facts and respect — don’t reduce people to labels or insults.
