One, when I was a missionary, a pastor of another church stopped me in the street and accused me of brainwashing people. I quipped that I was 19 years old with one year of college under my belt and "I'm not that smart and these folks aren't that dumb."

Happy then. Happy now. I am grateful for having been given 5 decades of life and having been given more joy than I gave in each one.

@BrambleJim Thanks for sharing. I've not yet had the pleasure of meeting you in person but I feel like we've been friends. My story is similar in many respects. I'm reminded often of the scripture in Luke: Where much has been given, much is required.

1/12. If you make it through this very long thread, I will tell you a true story about a real miracle that happened to me with this house. Jana and I were newlyweds and we were struggling economically.  I mean we were poor. Very, very poor. Rice, beans and ramen noodles poor.

Near Brian Head, UT earlier today. A reminder that there is so much beauty on this earth.

For some reason, I have been thinking about this moment a lot today. It's from John McCain in 2008 at a town hall. The woman begins to espouse conspiracy theories about Barack Obama's nationality. He immediately shuts it down. "No ma'am. He's a decent family man."

@lowrysnow What a great start! Add the confidence that comes from continuing to read outside of the classroom and an increased rate of parent involvement, and we have a true recipe for success.

This is significant. Getting kids on reading level early leads to positive academic outcomes including improved graduation rates from high school.

Garden is a bit wild these days. Here is the morning heist. I used the purple pepper and some chives I picked after this video in the omelet I made for our breakfast. We also had plums from the neighbor’s tree which she graciously shared with us. Yes that carrot is gnarly.
