Mailvelope v6.1 is out! This release introduces support for Manifest V3 on Firefox and Edge, improves integration with GnuPG, updates the recipient input interface, and adds support for decrypting encrypted subject lines. It also includes important security fixes from a recent audit by 0xche and addresses a critical vulnerability in OpenPGP.js, Mailvelope’s core encryption library.

Your post needs some clarification: As an open-source project, we rely on some income to sustain development. Gmail-API usage was and is always free, but Google Workspace accounts (mostly non-private users) require a license. If you’ve switched to a Workspace account, this could explain the prompt. For legacy Workspace users from the days when Google didn’t charge, we’ve often provided free licenses when they reached out. Please keep in mind: charging our business users helps us maintain and improve Mailvelope while continuing to offer core services for free to the community. If you need assistance, just reach out!

@mailvelope, I always used to open encrypted emails in GMail and enter my private key password to decrypt and read the email. Now mailvelope insists that I activate Google API and wants me to charge $3 per month. No option to just continue what I have been doing. I have an important encrypted email and now cannot open it. This is is the kind of action that will will make me move away from Mailvelope forever
